A minor !?!?! OMG!!! What are your thoughts on drag shows for minors? What are your thoughts on exposing minors to nudity at pride parades? Stop clutching your pearls about a mentally ill teen being outed, especially when he and his parents want him to be outed. Drag shows are fine for minors. Kids are safer around drag queens than they are around priests. Pride parades are also great, though there are some who take the nudity thing too far. But really, I want to call out the complete and total lack of respect you are approaching the topic with. You don't get to tout around about mental health as if you actually care about the mental health of trans people. Tate nor her parents have ever outed her publicly in a way that puts a target on her. If they had, this story wouldn't be coming 6 months after her commitment. You won't find a single article or post about Tate being transgender until yesterday. This wasn't an issue until Tate was completely outed by that article. Had Tate truly been outed by her or her parents, as you claim, we would've heard her name much much earlier in the progression of this story. Well, no, drag shows are not fine for minors. Drag shows are sexual in nature. Every state and virtually every nation on the planet has laws that protect children from sexualization by adults. If you want to bring priests into it, fine. Those priests who sexually abuse children should be imprisoned and chemically castrated, just as any adult who sexually abuses or grooms children -- and that includes drag queens. It is really disturbing to see that sexualization of children has become normalized for so many of you.

They? Are you talking about multiple players? No, I am using the singular "they," which has been used in the English language since the 14th century, and has been validated by APA writing guides and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. If it is hard for you to grasp the concept of using the singular they, think of it this way- if someone were to leave kneepads at a coed open gym, I would say "Oh no, someone left THEIR kneepads. I hope THEY come back to get those." The singular they is used when the gender is not determined. That is why is it fine to use it when the owner of those kneepads could be a man or a woman. However, you used "they" when you knew the gender of the individual being discussed.

Nothing wrong with taking kids to pride parades. I took my cousin and my 11yr old niece to Honolulu Pride this year and they absolutely loved it. My niece told me she would love to go to next years parade. đłď¸âđ Ya my friend and I took her 8 year old daughter to Denver pride and left when 2 men were drunk having sex right next to us in the park. Maybe they could do a kid friendly day and then a non kid friendly day but what I saw was 100% not appropriate for kids. That doesnât happen in major metropolitan cities amongst heterosexuals? Iâd suggest that a gay pride event is not appropriate for âyourâ kids.

For those freaking out about âMALE PUBERTY,â itâs likely irrelevant in this case. Kids who transition at a young age are put on puberty blockers, and then eventually begin HRT. Trans girls who transition this early often donât ever go through âmale pubertyâ - the goal is usually to keep them from doing so and instead help their bodies develop as womenâs do. So the growth spurt, bone and muscle development, etc. that people say grants trans girls an unfair advantage? None of that applies to those cases. What you are describing is child abuse. It is harmful because the effects of puberty blockers are permanent. Any child who takes (or is forced to take) puberty blockers and later in life decides they actually are their birth gender will be permanetly damaged. There are numerous documented cases of this happening. There are also cases of children receiving mastectomies and later deciding that they are actually female. Again, the damage is permanent. Some of you people really are sick and twisted. I think forcing someone to stay in the body they clearly do not want to be in, therefore raising their chance at suicide and depression exponentially is much closer to child abuse than allowing someone to feel comfortable in their own body⌠also, puberty blockers are not permanent. they âblockâ puberty from happening, but as soon as you stop taking them, puberty will start. if someone born as a male wants to transition and take puberty blockers, and then decides that he wants to stay a male, then he can stop taking puberty blockers, and if necessary, could very easy start taking other hormone supplements to make sure puberty happens in the healthiest way possible. almost all states do not allow gender affirming SURGERY to minors, so those are very, VERY rare cases. but even if it was more common⌠you can reverse the surgeries. sure, not naturally, but how do you then trans women and trans men get their preferred âpartsâ after they turn 18? we have ways now⌠but you know this. even if up to a quarter of trans people wanted to go back to their original gender, why should we disallow the 3/4 that donât? seems like you want to stop the majority because of a small minority. if you donât want trans people in sports because of a biological advantage, let trans people stop that biological advantage. itâs disgusting to want it both ways (not letting trans people be trans until through puberty but because theyâve been through puberty, they canât play sports). sports created many of my best memories and I cant imagine not have been able to play because I just wanted to be comfortable in my own body.

I am certainly not demeaning any children for their choices, but they are children and children often make very bad, impulsive and uninformed choices. Like attend a football camp at Penn State? Oh boy, that's a good one. You really got me there. Now I have to acknowledge that it's OK for drag queens to perform for children, its cool when priests sodomize children and it's just fine to pump kids full of puberty blockers. You've absolutely exposed my hypocrisy. I can't believe how clever you are. Idiot.

Some of you people really are sick and twisted. Statements like this are often used as way to argue against gender affirming care. Research and data shows that individuals who receive top surgery (masectomies) are overwhelmingly satisfied with their decision and very very few regret their decision to have surgery. Many medical centers have guidelines in place to ensure that the risk of regret remains low. There is a long process that can ultimately lead to surgery, and by the time that point is reached, surgery has been on the mind of the individual for a very long time.

When is the last time you saw a public parade for heterosexuals where the whole point of the parade was to celebrate (and often demonstrate) sexual activity? I can't believe there are people like you who are so unwilling to condemn sexual activity in front of children because you can't bring yourself you criticize any abhorrent behavior of one of your favored groups.

I've been to many drag shows that included queens wearing anything from full ball gowns to a Smokey the Bear costume. Overgeneralization is not helpful in this conversation. You also failed to respond to the main point of the post, which is the idea that Tate was not publicly outed until this article was posted.

Well, someone didn't confirm if they've ever attended one or not.
Of course, HappyVolley could easily be a part of the community too, especially since Holiday (supposedly) says he is, but I don't know if he ever cleared up or admitted to lying about that.

why are gay people even being discussed? sexuality and gender identity are not the same thing. the issues here are not the same. this is basically Off The Net now where people just regurgitate their talking points. if yâall were actually concerned about trans women in sports, and think that is relevant to volleyball, then why are pride parades and drag queens the subject of conversation?
if you wanna get off on hating gay people, do it in OTN. no place for that here. thatâs why thereâs multiple sections of the board.

You agree that you can use the singular they in a gender neutral sense, which is exactly how Quinn is using it. In order to reflect navigating the world in a non-gendered way, Quinn uses they/them pronouns.

Drag queens do NOT seek out children to be explicit with. If you're going to stereotype and be hateful, go do it on twitter or insta. This website is for VOLLEYBALL DISCUSSION, not demeaning a kid for their choices. That is absolutely untrue. Have you never heard of Drag Queen Story Hour? There are some drag queens who make it a point to perform for children. I am certainly not demeaning any children for their choices, but they are children and children often make very bad, impulsive and uninformed choices. Drag queens will go to libraries and read books to the kids, how is that predatory. how is that performance? and there are non-sexual peformances by drag queens, it's the same as any other performing artist. But since it's drag, your close-minded self immediately sees it as predatory.

I have actually read the entire thread. It actually wasn't a bad discussion until Holiday got involved. Oh well. On most issues I consider myself progressive or liberal leaning, I have typically been opposed to those born as male competing in divisions intended only for females. Lia Thomas swimming 3 years as a male, then switching to female and winning her event in NCAA's, was egregious imo. Worse is transgender females competing in MMA, where possibility of serious injury is so high. In my sport of disc golf, we have had an issue this past year with a transgender woman in professional disc golf, who can throw farther than her female counterparts. It has caused a lot of damage in the sport. I feel being born male gives an advantage in most sports. I'm no scientist, but it would seem that the earlier you transition, the less advantage you would have. I could be wrong. After reading the story, my strongest feeling was of sympathy for Tate. She obviously did not transition to gain some advantage. I can only imagine the hate-storm she will now have to deal with. I feel so badly for her. The article was shameful, so disrespectful. Although, as I have stated, that I am typically against those born as males competing as females, I try to keep an open mind, and am aware of the possibility that I could be wrong, and could be on the wrong side of history. In the case of Tate, I will be STRONGLY rooting for her success. Her mother made that video when Tate was 9 years old. So did she transition at 8? 7? I find myself having trouble standing in the way of someone who has identified as female from such a young age. I'm sure I have a lot to learn on this issue. But I really hope that Tate weathers the storm and comes out okay, ready to focus on volleyball. If Washington ever plays at Stanford while Tate is playing, I will be sure to give her the loudest ovation I have ever given anyone! Who are you kidding? I came in on page 5 and before that it was just a bunch of screaming activist calling people transphobic . You call that a meaningful discussion? Where you and I can agree ? I also feel for Tate. I think any of us that have faced that ugly kind of Prejudice know how difficult it is. I can also feel for her parents and know how painful that is for them to be in the middle of controversy as well. But I donât think most who are opposed to this are transphobic at all. I think they would totally support a division In high school and college sports for trans athletes. Oooh how about a league for only black people next? I wonder what we should call itâŚ.
