What do we do with those who are neither? What do we do with those who have a translocation of part of the Y chromosome, such that they either (A) express male characteristics without a Y chromosome, or (B) fail to express male characteristics, despite having a Y chromosome? Biology is not as simple as you were taught in high school (or even college). The hypotheticals aren't as complex as you would want them to be. If an XX individual with de la Chapelle syndrome really wants to compete with XY individuals, let em, other than that I'd say that those with a Y chromosome compete with others with a Y chromosome. The Y chromosome becomes the determinant of who(m) an individual competes with and against. Of course, special cases can be made and determined on an individual basis, but groupings based off of biology and science still don't seem like the worst way to go. There’s a Dave Chapelle syndrome ?

Well, I thought a little levity was needed.

Let her play. Are we going to pretend that 6’9” smrek doesn’t have a “biological advantage”? Like come on now

Letting dudes steal scholarships and glory from women is wrong and a Title IX violation. Everyone here knows it's wrong, they're lying to themselves if they say otherwise.

Or you can accept that some people don't think like you. This is part of the problem in politics and life. Regardless, at some point someone will challenge this in court. But it won't be this case: - You can't prove you're being harmed--anyone good enough to get a scholarship at Washington can get a scholarship almost anywhere else. - It's not proven that she's getting a scholarship yet. She might be an invited walk-on. As others have said, there's many trans athletes quietly competing in NCAA sports now.

There's a finite number of scholarships available in all of college volleyball. There's absolutely harm. It just doesn't harm the UW-level athlete. It harms some Div 2 kid that now got pushed out of a scholarship opportunity entirely. Why is this dude more deserving of a women's volleyball scholarship than a women trying to get on the team at a school like UN-Kearney?
> As others have said, there's many trans athletes quietly competing in NCAA sports now.
Yes, and any men using women's scholarships are stealing opportunities for women and they should have their scholarships revoked.
Also, what is the harm in saying NO to the dude? You say there's no harm to women, but HOW is the trans kid harmed by not getting a scholarship he shouldn't be eligible for? Why does anyone think this is so unfair that we need to fundamentally rethink women's sports entirely? Just to accommodate a handful of people that want to bend the rules solely for their own benefit?

Basically, majority of people in this thread are saying the whims of this one dude outweigh the woman that loses her scholarship as a result of this.

I'd be very interested to know how many male commenters right now are putting their 2 cents in to how harmed women athletes are by this situation, and how we must feel about it.

Ah, yes, because men in this thread couldn't possibly have a daughter that would be impacted by this madness.

I'm just supposed to shut up because the majority here disagree? That's absurd.
Enjoy the blowback for the sport if this dude actually gets a scholarship at UW.
