Get Shrek off the court! She’s a huge liability and brings zero scoring from the right. Devyn Robinson is the true right! I’d take CC any day over Smrek. Her two hand free ball set to Tx in set 1 - horrible! Hit a freaking down call from the ground! You are 6’10! You know most of the times I think Diva is unhinged, but I’m afraid I can relate here Diva is frustrated so I understand. I agree dev has been a bright spot. Anna has not so far. Booth seems a bit off too. Sheff is suggesting that Charlie just isn’t used to setting players that have such a high reach in transition, though now I’ve seen them live, I have to say it doesn’t look like the attackers’ feet are getting to the right spot either. With all the injuries these matches are the practice she gets with them. It’s not just a matter of taking on a tough attitude. They players have to how to communicate in those instances. Maybe Izzy and MJ took a lot of that on the last few years and Hilley before them. With Charlie being so new and occupied with learning the offense, the remaining older players need to step up in that regard.

This team just looks dejected. There is no energy or enthusiasm. Very few smiles by the players on the court and the sidelines players are just standing around. There seems to be a significant chemistry issue going on. I've only been following Badger volleyball since 2019 but I can't remember any loss in which we were not fighting hard to the last point. We've now lost twice in a row where the team seemed relieved when it was over. I was really surprised that Kelly called out the first-year smalls for lack of effort in the Wisconsin State Journal this morning. If they are not working hard enough as first-year players, that's a coaching failure and it is not going to be improved by calling them out in public. You can bet each and every one of them has heard this from Sheff himself. Given his experience and record of success, I think he probably knows who he's dealing with and what it's going take to light a fire under the group of players in question, e.g.,:
“All of our elite players at that position, they learned what it took to be elite. What our elite players did have in common was that they were searching for ways to be great. You had to keep them out of the gym. You think about Tiffany Clark and Lauren Barnes, both of those guys played at the end of their career hurt. And you still had to kick them out of the gym. They were in on their own a lot and working on fine tuning parts of the position. It’s no secret why people become great. They put the work in. We’ll see who wants to grab those spots.”
Message received, Damrow said. She’s ready to shift gears after having to prioritize school and rehab for more than a year.
“It has to flip in my brain because now it’s go time and I have to put in the work in order to be on the court,” she said. “It’s this little flip from when you’re injured to when you’re playing and what you have to be focused on. I know I have a lot of stuff to work on, and we talk about that every day. I’m just hoping I can play a big role on the team this year.”
Maybe you can share your coaching resume with us when you have a chance?

It just seems like there are 6 individual players on the court, all doing their own thing, instead of a TEAM.

I was very disappointed in our crowd today! We are tied 1-1 in sets, could have been easily 2-0, and the crowd is just blahhhh. We are playing the back to back National Champions! The current number 1 team and 80% of the crowd are Badgers! It was sad, fans didn’t have any urgency to rally the team or get them energized (as we have many times in the Fieldhouse).
The team was also hurrying up to lose in sets 3 and 4 - TX is good, but I do see a lot of upside for the Badgers come late October.
Passing was great today, imho.

I’m still waiting for Booth to have her breakout match, where she dominates and begins to instill fear in her opponents scouting reports.

The crowd was very quiet today. It felt like an away game despite all the Badger red in the crowd. The small contingent of Texas fans were quite a bit louder for most of the game.

hmm.. I was less impressed by this showing. She was running into people quite a lot. That’s probably a familiarity thing. She feels to me like a take charge BR player and I’m not sure taking charge as DS is what you need. I feel like that’s more of a reason to make the switch. Also need to preface that I was not originally overly impressed with Lola, but after today she did seem like a bright spot to me. Agree completely, her passing numbers are up there for those that have played and I think she would really offer some continuity back there. Has a bit to go, but definitely seems above Damrow defensively.

The paragraphs of the article I was talking about preceded the paragraph you quoted: "If the Badgers go with just one libero, the remaining playing opportunity is defensive specialist for Anna Smrek. Schumacher played that role at Louisville. "Right now nobody is close to G's defense, nobody is close to her serving, nobody is close to her out of system setting," Sheffield said. "And I don't see any of them putting the work in to close that gap quite honestly. It's hard for me to picture anybody taking that part of the game away from her. They're getting outworked. "From a serve receive standpoint, we've got a bunch that are pretty darn close to each other. It changes from day to day and week to week who I see doing that, and I don't see anybody putting in the work where I know for sure how that's going to end up." I don't have a problem with sending this message in the gym or in private. He absolutely should be if that is what he is seeing. I just don't think it is productive to be calling out his first-year players in public.

It just seems like there are 6 individual players on the court, all doing their own thing, instead of a TEAM. And it’s not the jealous me first attitude. There is a just lack of coordination, of knowing each other’s roles and awareness of where each other are. Booth not being aware and tripping Damrow(?) on her way to the ball at the end of the third was the perfect metaphor for the team’s play in those scramble moments. They have a lot to work on. Deciding on a lineup in the back row will be key. It may be the switching liberos could be part of the problem.

You know most of the times I think Diva is unhinged, but I’m afraid I can relate here I mean, I understand somewhat given Smrek's struggles so far with Charlie, but we're not going to bench our second-best hitter by literally all stats. Like I don't think stats for the past few years plus performances in the latter rounds of the tournament can lie, so unless Anna has suddenly forgotten how to play volleyball, it's the connections with Charlie which needs reps to iron out. There's no way around that. Like taking Anna off the court to put in CC is asking for Sarah to take 100 swings every game since opponents are def going to respect CC even much less than Anna, and that's not in any way feasible.

Yes we got aced up 7 times however Saige didn’t get aced once and Lola got aced once. Take that with a grain of salt because Texas served at Sarah the whole match to break her down. Saige has not been bad. She passed a 2.4 against Louisville. The experience factor is starting to kick in for Saige and it’s building confidence.

Much easier to record it and post it in order of serving rotation. And the longer that is the basic order, the less likely I am to re-arrange the order.
