BADGER Fans First of all, congratulations on a great season. I know it fell slightly short of the goal but, to be sure, you guys were a top 5 team all year and number one for most of it. As we look towards next season, I have to ask, "What's up with having a huge intersport tournament on Marquette 'turf'?" We had a disappointing year so I don't think we're worthy of an invitation but I have to wonder why this couldn't have been held in Madison. Okay, I got that off my chest. Have a great off season and we'll see you in Madison sometime in early September. I have no idea. It can’t be a capacity issue because the Kohl Center exists… maybe the Fiserv wanted to have big-time volleyball back? Maybe the only way we could get Texas and Stanford to agree to come to Wisconsin was to put it on a (somewhat) neutral court? It’s Wisconsin’s turn to host in 2024 coming year, so we’ll see you in the Field House this fall!

Nobody had a good night last night. IDK what happened. Sheff needs to get better at making in-game adjustments. For sure. But who would we have put on the floor last night who was any better? I also hope for true open competition next year. I think we will have it. I also will not be surprised if Oz wins it. I personally think Orzol is coaches fav. Of course her teammates love her too. Not disputing that Orzol is so adorable heck I was typing through tears of joy seeing her win that NCAA academics award the other day. ☺️ But I sincerely hope that she is not libero and that Dammrow/Schumacher ball out and win the position outright. GG not sure she's gonna have the emotional fortitude to hold up for rigors. If for some reason Orzol reverts back to outside hitter then we'll have a different debate does Julia bring enough of a threat on the front row? If Julia isn’t the libero next year, of which she was solid and steady for us for a majority of the year, or back to the left, does she play the spot I wondered if she’d play this year when TTA came in which is to play as a DS who can backrow attack? Ala Kenzie Knuckles or that Jade Demps in 2021 role, provide an additional swinging weapon from from the back?

Because FiServ holds 17,000 people, so that’s an additional 10,000 tickets per match/session than if it were in the field house. Why it’s not at the Kohl Center, IDK, but the answer is (always) money.

I recall reading that Sheffield was unhappy about not hosting the FF in Madison. I think the reason given was that there weren’t enough hotel rooms nearby.
Don’t quote me on that, though.

Didn't say that. Said there had better be a true open competition. If its even should go to the 'true' libero. You know one that's playing the position for years. I didn't see that 'great range last night. 7 digs? Nobody had a good night last night. IDK what happened. Sheff needs to get better at making in-game adjustments. For sure. But who would we have put on the floor last night who was any better? I also hope for true open competition next year. I think we will have it. I also will not be surprised if Oz wins it. I didn't realize the extent of the barrage last night [from Punzel in WSJ]:
Elliott said part of their game plan was to target Wisconsin All-American Sarah Franklin with as many serves as possible, and they did so by sending 52 of their 76 serves in her direction. “We tried to put a lot of pressure on Franklin tonight,” Elliott said. “I think you saw that with the service and just kind of wear her down because she's just kind of a special player.”
There are many decisions looming ahead, for players and coaches. Let's hope everyone resets to a "beginners mind"; the talent will be there.
The most sobering thing I saw this AM was Izzy wiping away a tear at the post-match presser. Being a fan of the losing team may bring some transient strong emotions, but the players are really suffering today. Heal up Badgers. All of you have many brighter days ahead.
GO BADGERS

You’re right. We have the Monona Terrace, we have the Alliant Energy Center, but we do not have a true massive convention center/hotel complex for hosting the AVCA convention, and the convention + championship are bid as a single event. If you look at what happens during the World Dairy Expo and Epic’s big conference in the fall, hotel rooms are full throughout the entire county. Some people have to stay as far away as Rockford or the Dells. Nobody’s going to want to deal with that, especially not in January. IMO the closest we’ll ever get to hosting is Milwaukee.

Great point. I saw it happening. You saw it happening. Our coach saw it but didn't help put his players in the best position to win. I am gutted for the players but PISSED at some of our coaches.

Serving the other team's six-rotation left isn't any great strategic idea, teams do it all the time. We did it to Gabby Gonzales in the Oregon match, and to a greater extent than Texas did last night. For some reason it can be hard to find the pdf box scores of matches where they show the number of serves players handle, but I bet it is far from the first time a team has done it with Franklin. As for your "saw it but didn't help put his players in the best position to win", what would you have done in Sheffield's place? --------------- Penn State NCAA match: Penn State served Franklin 35 times, GG 19 times, Orzol 8 times.

Anyone know the status of Wrobel’s injury? I really hope we can see her come out and just ball next year.

I was wondering if Sheff was trying to obtain a new indoor attendance record, but that theory seems a little less likely.

Alter receival positions slightly hedging over Orzol. Making other changes to take pressure off Franklin like getting Smrek out there with Hammill in a 5-1 in the 4th set. Hammill was serving directional lolly pops to Texas to return. No doubt a coaching decision. Put pressure on Texas. Starting with the coaches we failed miserably . Actually Sheffield in my opinion pretty much mailed it in! I was pissed at thev inaction so I shut off the %&$%$ video feed. Hell even give Franklin a real quick breather to 'reset'

I mean if Minneapolis can host the Super Bowl in February, Milwaukee in December shouldn’t be a problem IMO.

Posted within the last half hour on the match thread, the passing numbers: Franklin: 1.98 (54) GG: 1.50 (22) Orzol: 1.22 (7) 1.77 as a team Your solution was to give Orzol *more* floor to cover?
