Don't be obtuse. Coach has several options. Alter receival positions slightly hedging over Orzol. Making other changes to take pressure off Franklin like getting Smrek out there with Hammill in a 5-1 in the 4th set. Hammill was serving directional lolly pops to Texas to return. No doubt a coaching decision. Put pressure on Texas. Starting with the coaches we failed miserably . Actually Sheffield in my opinion pretty much mailed it in! I was pissed at thev inaction so I shut off the %&$%$ video feed. Posted within the last half hour on the match thread, the passing numbers: Franklin: 1.98 (54) GG: 1.50 (22) Orzol: 1.22 (7) 1.77 as a team Your solution was to give Orzol *more* floor to cover? I gave you several options. Fact is coach did nothing we got brow beat the last two sets. Not a good look.

When getting pummeled you will go get lost in the details. How was doing nothing gonna put the Badgers in a better place against Texas? Running an offense 5-1 that we run against each other in practice ALL the time. Haha. Yeh that's real controversial get your best performing player Smrek on the court much more! Sheffield failed the team. Simple as that. I also stated coaches were likely directing softball serves at selected Longhorns. Bring It Sheffield. Practice what we hear them preach to the players.

Likewise. I'll stick with the decisions made by the guy with four straight B1G titles and a national championship. SMH...

Coach Sheffield failed yesterday. I m not disputing he hasnt compiled a very good record of accomplishments and is a very good coach in practice. But sorry the SMH goes to you and in a decisive fashion.

So first, thanks to Rainbowbadger for all of their work creating the threads for Wisconsin this season.
Second, last night was definitely rough, but there is no need to take out our frustrations on any member of this team. We’ve had a great season with a 30-4 record, going undefeated at home, and making the final four.
Last nights passing was definitely not it, but Texas is a very tough serving team so it was going to be a hard fought night. Credit where credit’s due.
To posters ragging on Orzol and GG: just don’t. They had a rough night last night and I’m sure they’re taking it out on themselves (as I know I would), so there’s no reason for you to belittle their excellent work all season.
It wasn’t a pretty loss, but I am proud of what Wisconsin’s accomplished this year and am looking forward to the future of the program. We’ll be back hoisting that trophy soon enough.

"Yeh that's real controversial get your best performing player Smrek on the court much more!" How would running an MJ-Smerk 5-1 put "Smrek on the court much more"? Was she going to play backrow? In the 6-2 UW runs, Smrek plays three front row rotations, then gets subbed out. In a 5-1, Smrek would play three front row rotations, and then get subbed out.

The game happened and people are processing what happened in a way that's meaningful to them. As long as people are not making character attacks against another discussion should be appreciated by all as that is what this thread and to a larger degree, forum, entire purpose is😆

Nobody had a good night last night. IDK what happened. Sheff needs to get better at making in-game adjustments. For sure. But who would we have put on the floor last night who was any better? I also hope for true open competition next year. I think we will have it. I also will not be surprised if Oz wins it. I didn't realize the extent of the barrage last night [from Punzel in WSJ]:
Elliott said part of their game plan was to target Wisconsin All-American Sarah Franklin with as many serves as possible, and they did so by sending 52 of their 76 serves in her direction. “We tried to put a lot of pressure on Franklin tonight,” Elliott said. “I think you saw that with the service and just kind of wear her down because she's just kind of a special player.”
There are many decisions looming ahead, for players and coaches. Let's hope everyone resets to a "beginners mind"; the talent will be there.
The most sobering thing I saw this AM was Izzy wiping away a tear at the post-match presser. Being a fan of the losing team may bring some transient strong emotions, but the players are really suffering today. Heal up Badgers. All of you have many brighter days ahead.
GO BADGERS
The losers press conference is something that I just don’t understand in any sport. They don’t have any interest in being there. Most people would rather just hear from the winning team. Just let them go do their thing. Not much value comes from it in any setting in my opinion.

Is it confirmed 6-2 isn't working? The 6-2 lost two matches this year: one to the #1 team in the country where it had a match point, and tonight. It worked WAY better than the alternatives would have. 6-2 didn't lose this...bad passing did

2024 Number 1 goal should be to FIX libero position. Hopefully Dammrow or Schumacher are up to the challenge. I’m not convinced that Orzol isn’t the libero again next year. Switch to a 5-1 with Charlie setting and moving Robinson over to take TTAs spot doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibilities. Coaching staff will put the best players out there in the best positions. I think GG still has a big roll to play. Robinson will NEVER HIT OUTSIDE. EVER. 🙄

If you’re frustrated about the loss, go for a run; go on a rampage in GTA 5; be like Rooney Mara in “A Ghost Story” and eat an entire pie while sobbing on the floor; vent in person with your friends who watch the sport. There are much better ways to release your frustrations than ranting on VolleyTalk or any Internet forum. Show some appreciation for this team and what they’ve accomplished. It’s been a successful season in spite of not reaching the highest goal.

Even if its replacing Robinson with her its a significant better hitting percentage just by replacing Devyn. sub 200 vs over 500 for Smrek. And actually having Smrek serve for herself is a plus idea. So 4 out of 6. Then you're emliminating the high number of tight sets to the net Izzy is constantly putting forth getting a better connection with Booth. The embarrassing fact is Sheffield just sat there and took a beating when it is more than obvious actions he could have taken to stem the tide much sooner.

It worked WAY better than the alternatives would have. 6-2 didn't lose this...bad passing did Looking to next year and beyond, a question I have is which is easier to help us pass better? Does a 5-1 provide additional backrow support and potential subs to help with passing support? We are tall and physical in a 6-2 but I’m interested to see if we stay in that system moving forward.
