The Dig returns for Season 2, and for the first episode Jessica Coody chatted with Lauren Cook-West for a "Volleyball 101" session, Lauren breaks down the new rules for the upcoming college volleyball season and how they will impact the Huskers, she dives into rotations, the when's, why's and how's of substitutions, why "set the middles" is her most frequent phrase during Husker broadcasts, and the competition and talent on this year's roster.

Yeah, I don't see Lauenstein getting much playing time this year. At the OH position she is competing against Skinner and Wenaas and a couple other freshmen and sophomores. At the OPP position she would be competing against Reagan Rutherford. Good luck with that. The only way she cracks the starting lineup is if Texas undergoes a rash of serious injuries. If she can get back to where she was at the bare minimum, she definitely has potential to take Jenna’s starting spot in my honest opinion. Agree on Jenna. Not so sure about Byrd , Helmers and Miller, the former RS FR and the last a RS SO. TX roster includes 6 OH's and 2 OPP. NE fans think we have a competitive gym with 4 OH's, not even close to TX with a roster of 20.

Whitney is absolutely competing for a starting position for this season, both at OH and OPP, from what I'm hearing

Yes for the scrimmage. If Beason were injured, I think either Krause or Landfair would move to OPP, not Skylar. Next Year: expect a tranfer at OPP. Expect a transfer next year? Whitney Lauenstein will still be playing next year. Maybe Cook can convince her to come back for her final year? .... I'm kidding, of course. All kidding aside, Nebraska should expect significant drop-off from the opposite position in 2025 unless we can convince Babcock or Kennedy Martin to transfer. Does Nebraska really ever have “significant” drop off? They may not have a 1st team AA in that spot, but they’ll have a stud.

Does anyone know where Jazz Sweet is now. Last I knew she was playing in the Czeck Republic.

As of right now, the only right-side player who will be on Nebraska's roster next year is Ryan Hunter, who is currently a high school player. She will be replacing Merritt Beason, who is one of the best right sides in the country. I saw Hunter play in the U-19 worlds last year and I think she is a good player, but she isn't at Beason's level, at least not yet anyway. Maybe she will be someday. So, as of right now, I predict there will be a significant drop off at that position. Maybe Nebraska will pick up someone from the portal who can fill that spot for a year or two, but it is pretty tough to replace a player of Beason's caliber.

Hunter will also be coming off a significant knee injury.

Texas is gonna land some big transfer in the winter portal and then Jaylen is gonna call up Kennedy Martin’s parents and convince them to get her to come to Nebraska all while John Cook is complaining about the transfer portal to the media

The SEC has more money and better competition so not sure Martin’s parents even take that call in 2025.

Lot of Yada Yada BS ... IF TX and NE play each other in the 24 NCAA tournament, the match will be a super hyped rivalry game. The rivalry being not just for the players, but possibly more so for the coaches. Lots of volleyball to play and enjoy before that possibility could become reality. P.S. IMO TX fans will keep their 'TX back-to-back National Champions' thread current all season in anticipation of replacing it with a "TX 3-peat" thread. And they very well could get their wish. ARGH!@$%!

Last season the B1G outpaced the SEC in generated revenue and distributed around $9 million more to each school. I don't have the numbers but I assume that average Volleyball attendance is higher as well. When looking at the schedules of the mid-tear B1G teams it seems they have learned a lesson about scheduling for the RPI from the SEC and B12. At tournament time I wouldn't be surprised to see that the B1G is competitive in the number of bids with the SEC. They could also have the most teams alive to start the second weekend like last year.
