I’ve always been of the idea that until the Nebraska basketball teams consistently become winning teams and sell out every game, volleyball should get the bigger and newer arena.

A journalist told me last night at dinner that Cook didn’t want to play at PBA bc of a loss of HCA, which doesn’t make much sense now that I think about it. I wonder what changed? Cook tends to speak his mind at the moment. People should not be surprised if he sometimes changes his mind.

Cook tends to speak his mind at the moment. People should not be surprised if he sometimes changes his mind. When he retires, someone should make a compilation vid of all the silly things he’s said over the years. I'd be shocked if several VT members don't have a compilation they update every time Cook does an interview or a podcast. Some of these folks are absolutely obsessed with Cook.

A nugget on Cook that’s not in this story: Nebraska plans to play a regular-season match in 2025 at the 15,500-seat Pinnacle Bank Arena. “I’ve always thought if I’m going to do this,” he said. “I’m going to try to push the envelope.” Cook arranged in the spring of 2024 to stage an exhibition volleyball event in the 4,600-seat South Point Arena in Las Vegas — involving Nebraska, Illinois, USC and UCLA. Nebraska fans alone would have likely filled the venue. But the NCAA denied the request by the Huskers and the Illini to travel outside of the allowed 400-mile radius for a spring competition. x.com/mitchsherman/status/1826625925686886532 I do wonder why the request was denied? Seems worthy of an exception IMO

Not posting this in that toxic thread, but Cook gave some insight on the Harper situation today and it's pretty much what I suspected. In that moment once she got up there and fielded that first question on the subject, friendly as it may have been, she suddenly felt that she was going to break down. So Merritt was there for her and had her back. Some call that "toddler" behavior, I call it an amazing teammate and friend.
Being prepared and trained on how you approach a situation does not mean you will be able to necessarily execute in the moment. And that's ok. Harper is human. She is dealing with the consequences of some really bad choices, but a little empathy isn't so awful. I thought it was really good to hear Cook vocalize that Harper has been trying and has shown more maturity in their interactions, but she has moments where it's a struggle to deal with it all. He closed by saying he and his staff got to believe in these kids.

Leyla exudes joy. She genuinely seems so happy, as does Taylor.
Can't wait for both of them to be a part of this year's journey!

Part of me wants her pro career to end early so she can get that personality into an elementary school classroom where she's going to be just fantastic (though none of us will see it unless she pulls a Tim Walz)

Maybe. You gonna steal any more of our players? :0) It was only 4! But in all seriousness I do get the volleyball aspect just because these are the two best programs. But since I just don’t see it regarding the schools themselves, it feels more like a battle for general volleyball supremacy than a true “rivalry”. Not sure that’s the most eloquent way to put it but that’s how it seems to me. I think the real rivalry is between Wisconsin and Nebraska, where everyone is all in to beat the other and everyone talks about when the last time X won over Y, etc. II agree that TX vs Neb is more for overall supremacy rather than a real rivalry.

Cook also just said Skyler hits sharper angles than the other OHs, courtesy of her height and length.

Cook, you’re thinking of Nellie Spicer!

I was totally impressed by the non-verbal communication between them as Murray turned to Beason. Great empathy, to be sure.
