Schedule was announced. Biggest takeaways: - We don't end our season against Dook anymore. We play them back-to-back away and home on October 2 and 4, respectively.
- We only play NC State once.
- Regarding the new ACC teams, we play at SMU and host Cal and Stanford the week before Thanksgiving
- Against the top teams, we play AT Louisville and Pitt, and host GT, Florida State, and Stanford.
- 15 home games for the second time since 2014.

Back from working all summer overseas. Team chemistry seems good this year. Spoke to oe of the seniors who says this is the most cohesive that the team has been since she has been there. Also, coaches spent a lot fo summer looking at themselves and mistakes made last year. According to one of the other transfer girls, she says this is a dark horse team because of the offensive firepower we now have on the roster. I will tame my enthusiasm until I see the passing and defense that allows the offense to flow.

Hopefully they figure out the passing because they can be very good if that is solved. Unfortunately, I just don’t know where it will come from since we didn’t bring in anyone that solves it.

Seriously. This team is going to live or die with passing. I really think Boehlinger helps in this area.....a lot of people are underestimating how athletic and capable she is. In other new Jackie Taylor is already looking well and Mabrey looks like the old Mabrey. Chelsea Thorpe and Taylor Eisert are going to be huge for this team. |

I was not there tonight, but my friend who was there said Carolina looked bad and lost to App State. I did not get anymore details other than that right now.

My friend is not a big volleyball person, but said Carolina lost 4 of 5 sets. He said passing was awful and that Carolina was blocked over and over all night long. He said the team looked miserable. |

No your friend is correct. We lost to App State. App State.
The Good: Mike used everyone. People that we know are not going to play. To me it seemed he used this as a measuring stick to see individual performances. So there was lots of shuffling and in and out. I do not think we were as bad as we looked. I think with a starting lineup 2 weeks from now, we win that match. I think there is a drop off in all positions in talent except the Opposite. Left side is deep but dont know the status of Safi Hampton.
The Bad: Its APP state. At UNC, our second string should beat them. They didnt.
The setting was very tight, and the pssing was bad. Poor reads and poor execution. Lots of frustration.
Did not play smart volleyball. Tight passes and bad sets were blocked a lot....as a hitter you have to learn to deal with it.
We also were without Safi and I beleive one other player due to injury.
Tame any expectations, it was a BAD exhibition, but I think we will be much better than we showed. If I were the coaching staff....the passing unit would be in the gym excessively the next few weeks.

It is still absolutely insane that our coaching staff did not address the single biggest issue with this team in the offseason. Do you think they ignored team weaknesses during Spring practices? That really would be insane. The coaches ignored all the weaknesses over the spring. And yes, that’s insane. But what’s worse is that they knew about those weaknesses even before spring. They knew about them after Maddy’s freshman year, when Mike took over. But he chose not to bring anyone and allow Maddy to play unchallenged as libero for another year. Funny enough, she played for Triangle when he was there. You draw your own conclusions, but not getting anyone to help with passing is highest level incompetence or simple favoritism at the expense of the program. Not sure what’s worse. I’m gonna reserve my judgment for when the season starts but what I saw at the exhibition was awful. Passing horrendous, setting similar. I think it’s unfair to expect hitters to adapt to that. It was bad. Safi and Sadie didn’t play. What’s insane is that anyone else expected more after Bubba chose to not pay coaches much so no one with volleyball pedigree would come to coach here and then we lost 3 starters to transfer. Don’t blame Mike, he just doesn’t know what he is doing, blame Bubba for being cheap and letting him run the program. Hope that something drastic changes or it will be a super long season. What’s worse, not just one season but likely more. You ain’t fixing passing by practicing more with this group. Need someone new and solid. |

Also don’t sleep on App State! Coaching staff is experienced and enthusiastic, and their incoming class is pretty talented!
