Up 2-0; 25-17… got things to clean up, but doing what we are supposed to. Good things happen when Bohlinger is on the court. Mabrey definitely looks healthy.

Heels sweep Cleveland State (25-12, 25-17, 25-17). Good balance of attacking… third set they honed in on serving our outsides and Foster struggled a lot, but finished it out.
Some good positives and things to work on for sure.

Same lineup as last night. Fun (?) fact: we are 0-2 all-time against the College of Charleston.

I wish he would play Safi when we lead a lot like now in the first set

Heels win set 1 25-13.
Foster went a perfect 8-for-8 in the set! Efficiency +… 19 kills in the first set, 17 assisted.

Doesn’t look like Meyerhoefer has been on the bench last night or today. Anyone know anything about that?

Heels up 2-0 after a 25-10 win in the second.
Didn’t do much wrong. Safi came in a played back row for Mabrey at the end and got a few aces.
Foster is crushing the ball.

Heels sweep CoC 25-13, 25-10, 25-20. Charleston played way better in the third and held a two point lead for most of the middle of the set until it was 20-20 and then we closed it out.
Foster with 19 kills with a .667 hitting percentage.
It’s early, but I feel like this is obviously a way better team than last year. I’m not sure what happened in Boone in the exhibition.

Up 2-0 over WCU (25-13, 25-17). At times in S2 I could see how App beat us. We passed horribly and they camped out on us OOS and we just kept getting roofed… our setters didn’t force anything and just kept setting our outsides over and over.
We have barely set the back row so far early this season… could maybe be useful OOS when they are camping on our OH. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad we haven’t been setting backrow as much as last year, but it’s still important to do so.
Schutter (for Engelbrecht) and Hampton (for Foster and Bohlinger) got some time in S2. Both stay on in S3.

Heels close out the sweep with a 25-10 win in S3. It was 10-8 and Mabrey served 10 straight points and we closed on a 15-2 run.
Apart from back to back blocks in S2 on really OOS plays, Hampton looked good and finished with 11 kills. Curtis and Swift also made an appearance late in the third set.
Finished with 12 or 13 aces and only four service errors. Mabrey had 5 or 6 of them herself.
9 sets played this weekend, 9 wins.

The competition was obviously not strong, however, there were moments that I could see this team getting into the Top 6 of the conference. We are a long ways away from Louisville, Pitt, and Stanford levels though. I am not sure that Yardimci is going to be productive against better teams. I also still think the libero situation is average at best against the teams we will face later. I will also say I felt like coaching is significantly better than what it has been the last few years. Lots of feedback and lots of instruction. If Carolina could start landing some solid kids, they could get back into the Top 25.

What happened in the exhibition at App State was that we did not get consistent lineups. The coaching staff played everybody on the team, essentially people that normally would not be starters in game situations that weekend. I also eas glad to see them DS one left side. Really helped with passing and defense.
For the first time in a while we saw a Carolina staff finally put out a starting lineup, and for the most part, kept it very consistent, to help build that chemistry and the rhythm between the players. Based on everything I have seen so far, I am really thinking that the exhibition was an outlier. We have a lot of things still to work on, but this team looks much more put together and much more of an efficient volleyball team than it has in the past.
one of the things that I'm most encouraged in seeing is that even in our most successful years, our teams have consistently played to the level of our competition. It is early but I like that so far we're staying consistent by playing high level volleyball and not playing at the level of the team on the other side of the net. Also, how nice is it to run a pin to pin offense?!
The Good: All the left sides were effective offensivley. Thorpe and Peyman both looked solid. Jackie Taylor. HOLY TALENT. Eisert and Behrendt compliment each other well. Boehlinger is solid in transition I like the 6-2 May actually played and read good defensively.
The Needs Improvement: Give middles more opportunities. Need to close block better Sharpen passing
It will be very interesting to see how we play on the road this upcoming weekend
