I'll also say the setting has to be tightened up. Even on some good passes, the sets weren't where they needed to be.
Also, May has to do better about reading blocks and communicating with hitters while covering. One huge block on Safi against Western came when Safi was left of the antenna with no real options and you heard Maddy scream "HARD HARD." Safi listened and got absolutely roofed. We have to do better in those situations about going off high hands or tipping into the block so our coverage can reset the point and get back into transition.
Jackie Taylor could be a star in a few years. For sure.

Setting needs improvement. Zoe looks slower. Passing is still not there to run middles. I like the right side though. We actually may have something there now. Connection with middles is not there either. The opposition was weak and kind of beat themselves. Let’s see how we do against good serving teams. I’m glad we looked ok. Just need to build confidence. Shaff looks healthy. With right sides we have now let’s not overload her. I would have preferred Shaff rested in the last match.

Just curious, who is Alexis Taylor? can't find her on the roster... He’s accidentally combining our two new middles together, Alexis Engelbrecht and Jackie Taylor. He’s referring to Jackie Taylor (daughter of the late Sean Taylor of the Redskins).

SMU just swept Nebraska… another good team added to our conference. Wow.

It will be interesting to see how we play on the road at SC. Temple should not be a difficult game. SC is not that great but they can be jekyll and hyde. Last year, a very down year, they still beat TENN at home in a sweep and pushed Florida. Then Lipscomb and KSU will not be a cake walk either.
We are quickly going to see if we can be physical against bigger teams in what looks to be a VERY tough ACC.

Actually, looking at the play by play, Emani is subbing with the setter and Safi subbing with Bohlinger, so looks like Safi is the O2 and Emani is RS.

Heels up 2-0 (25-22 and 28-26). Safi leading the team with 8 kills, hitting .429 and had the ace to end Set 2.
Mabrey with 7 kills (.190), Emani with 5 kills (.056), Chelsea with 4 kills (.071), and the middles combined to have 7 kills hitting a cumulative .444. Looks like the RS is struggling a bit.
Getting outblocked 8-3.

Getting blocked to high heaven in the third set. Gotta assume the passing has broken down. 7 blocks for Temple so far in just this set and we are hitting .000. Down 21-17, timeout Heels.

We lose the first set of the year 25-20 but lead the match 2-1. We are going to Emani A LOT but only has 9 kills to 8 errors on 26 attempts (.038).
We hit .029 in the third set thanks to 8 Temple blocks. Good god.
The weirdest stat to me is that Zoe has 22 assists but Taylor only has 11.

Heels trailed 17-19 in the third set and then Bohlinger came in and we went on a 6-0 row with about 4 kills coming from Thorpe. Then a Thorpe kill (5 of the last 8 points) and a Jackie Taylor kill wrapped it up for a 3-1 win (25-20, 28-26, 20-25, 25-21).
Four players with double-digit kills (Mabrey 13 (.098), Thorpe 12 (.194), Safi 11 (.273), and Emani 10 (.074)). Our middles combined for 10 kills with 5 apiece.
Zoe had 26 assists and Taylor finished with 17.
Outblocked 17-8 on the day though… we did finished with 9 aces to Temple’s 7 (five of their aces were on Safi).
South Carolina (beat Temple 3-0) tomorrow. That one will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Fell 18-25 in the first set. SC is diving after and digging everything to their credit. But our offensive strategy is just not very good, in my opinion. We are trapping hitters, not getting middles involved at all… and Maddie May has to stop playing hero ball. She was running towards the right pins and barely got to it (as the second ball) and instead of just doing a run through to go straight up for Foster to swing on the RS, she flung it behind her to the left pin and it was so tight there was no chance of anything positive happening. Just some careless decisions.
And passing on SR was not good and we didn’t adjust to their short serves at all when they went on a decent run. SC is in system wayyy more than us.

It’s like they can read this… up 5-1 in the second and an SC timeout. Alexis with three early kills in S2.
