Like no disrespect to Michigan but how is that possible ? This should be the best team in Pitt history imo….. what did Michigan do to destroy them

Okay, first lets not get too worked up over this one, it was an EXHIBITION match. But still...yikes!
Lineups: Pitt ran a 5-1 with Fairbanks in S1; 6-2 with Fairbanks and Buzlutepe in S2 and a 5-1 with Buzlutepe in S3-5. It looked like Fairbanks tweaked her ankle a bit on one play (she's fine) and I think Fish didn't want to risk it the rest of the way. They also ran two liberos with Klika and Meyer. Cat Flood came in as serving sub and Griffin got a turn from the line also. All the other usual starting suspects played.
Michigan basically played the same 7 players all match with Burke setting, Nyambio/Boney at MB; Reaugh/Jacobs at OH; Vaulet at OPP and Cuchran at libero. Chopra came in as serving sub and the freshman Trixie McMillan got some play at DS in S3 relieving Reaugh. I don't know if this is how Virtue plans on running her rotations this season, but Reaugh, Jacobs and Vaulet never left the floor.
Passing was really the name of the game for both sides. Michigan put a lot of service pressure on the Panthers, with VVG and Stafford as the primary targets. And I lost count of how many points Blue scored on tips and dinks, something Pitt really needs to work on. In the end, Babcock was the best player on the floor and pretty much scored at will when they could get the ball to her. Scoring from the middles was pretty nonexistent.
For Michigan, its very clear that Jacobs and Reaugh are major upgrades on the outside and both players bring seasoned experience to the floor. Vaulet was the star on offense though, if she brings this level of consistency to the B1G Michigan might surprise a few teams. Nyambio had an excellent day blocking but her connection with Burke is not quite where it needs to be. The passing in general will need to improve for the team.
Some stats: Michigan hit.274 to .226 for Pitt. Michigan outblocked Pitt but I don't have TB stats. No individual hitting percentages, but Babcock led all scorers with 26K, Stafford had 13 and VVG 10. For Michigan, Vaulet had 18K, Jacobs had 12, Boney and Reaugh each had 10.
As long as Pitt cleans up their passing, they should be fine. Production out of the middle needs to improve also. For Michigan, they can only but go up after last season. This was a fun, competitive match and today's performance has me encouraged.

Yes it’s an exhibition match but I am getting way too worked up over that performance because that’s just my nature. 😆
Lots to like about the performance and especially the composure. Let the first set slip away after controlling much of the play and yet came back with an impressive set 2. Recovered from a dominant Pitt win in set 3 with another strong set four win, and competed well in the fifth. Still plenty to work on but hopeful that it’s upward from here. Excited for the possibilities. Go Blue!

Excited for the possibilities. Go Blue! You should definitely be allowed to get excited about your team's performance, exhibition or not. One, because of how bad a season Michigan experienced last year, but also because YOU SHOULD BE EXCITED ABOUT YOUR TEAM! Like, why do people love to yuck other people's yum? Nobody's future results are set in stone and things can always change. I think you should be allowed to celebrate the moment and think about the end of season results later.

GO BLUE! Would love to see Erin lead this team back into the rankings! I think the softer non-con is a good move for this team. Give the team some more time to gel and then knock off some B1G opponents!

Jacobs is a very solid all around player. She isn't someone who is going to thump her way through a match, she reads the defense and takes smart shots. Where she has really improved is on defense, she trained as a libero at the NDTP earlier this year and it shows. She's an ideal 6 rotation OH, something the team desperately missed last season. On top of all that, she 's a leader and a captain that the young players can learn from. I'm so glad that she stuck around and we might even get a 6th year!

Almost hard to recognize unless you watch close and know what you’re looking at!
