jake UCI did it! Just like Cal Poly defeated UNLV, UC Irvine defeated Wyoming. I HAD A FEELING both Cal Poly and UCI would get a Massey top 50 win this weekend. yes,...INDEED. CAL POLY takes down North Texas in a 5 set nail biter in Vegas. True freshman Kendall Beshear and Tommi Stockham each recorder 15 kills!!! How good is Wichita State??? CAL POLY needs this match on Thursday. |

Did you guys watch the Wichita State match? We are too predictable, we don't cover our hitters that keep getting blocked, and I felt like they outblocked us like 3-1 ratio. I didn't really feel that Wichita State was even that good. This was winnable. I have really kind of given up on this team.

I didn't really feel that Wichita State was even that good. This was winnable. I have really kind of given up on this team. I do not think Poly has great team speed to me, Poly has a fundamental issue. They need Tommi Stockham to kill front and back, but she can't pass. This has been going on for 3 years. Stockham has over two times the number of reception attempts as any other player on the team. She's got a target on her back. It's not rocket science, other coaches are not stuipd. She simply has not improved her passing. The difference with elite OHs, is they might be suspect passing as well, but they can terminate close to 0.300 to make up for it. Stockham is a great OOS hitter for the Big West or probably most any other program. She can't pass well though. there is no solution, since Walters will not rotate her out of the back row, cause she wants her in there to terminate. Poly does not run a fast offense like other Big West teams. It'll be predictable. Walters philosophy is to not have errors. Beach tries to play fast, and muck things up. And when Beach is bad, they are really bad, they can't really pass well enough to run the offense well. Markovska, until she was injured. looked Fantastic in the back-row, and was hitting lights out. for a few games she was the most improved player in the league and might have given some flexibility to rotate Stockham out of the back row. Breshear was looking better, maybe she could get there passing wise. They'll still win 14-16 conference games. they are not the only team with that issue. Beach, losing Agi, who was great all-around, and now Beach's all arounds either can't pass well (>0.94) or can't kill reliably. The Big West is doing ok, because the top 7 teams returned their setters. Teams like Poly, Beach, Hawaii haven't figured out how to receive a dang VB reliably though. They are downright pathetic too much of the time passing. Hawaii always seems to figure that out by end of conference. |

CP will take the BWC and auto bid. imo Pretty disappointing! Only watched the start of the match,...1st two sets. Shocked,...we couldn't pull that out at the end. Wonder how much importance coach Walters puts on the NC schedule. |

Stockham already has been aced SIX times today thru start of 3 sets.
I just do not get why Walters cannot get herself to try an adjustment and take Stockham out of the back-row. If she passes well Poly can win, if she doesn't, which is often, Poly struggles.
I mean non-conference was for development more so after POly lost their 3 critical matches for their resume.

Poly gets a much needed reverse sweep of NOrth Colo
Stockham with 64 swings 19 kills, including the last 3 wow. to go with 16 digs and the requisite 7 error receptions
POly at least didn't get aced last 2 1/2 sets, hard to tell without video but seems their receiving/passing got cleaned up to pull out this match, plus Markovska came in and also a big serving run 5th set.
would not have been a good tournament had they lost.

CAL POLY needs to come in focused and forget what happened last year. The BWC is an up and down league this season. UH lost in five at home against UCI,...wow! was all business sweeping CSUB 22, 24 & 22. Coach Walters is giving many of the true freshmen opportunity to play. It's a long season and wearing down your starters will hurt at the end. A little bit more of a challenge with UCD coming to town Friday. |
