2023 Recap:
Sooooo close to the Elite 8! They had a match point in the 4th against eventual champion Texas, but they just couldn’t slow down Madisen Skinner when they had to (and there’s no shame there). The LV’s played good volleyball all season (except for the pantsing the Gamecocks gave them in the regular season finale) and were the only SEC team to take down Kentucky during the regular conference season. They had great senior leadership and strong underclass contributions to support them. The rest of the conference won’t be sad to not have to try to defend against Fingall next year.

I posed in the old thread that the Lady Vols have been pretty quiet so far this portal season. They would seem to have spots available with money.

they definitely lost some major pieces this season. I know they’re bringing in some good talent but I worry about their passing. I wonder if Plante will take over the L jersey or if they’ll be able to secure a solid L from the portal

Losing TEN players is wild. I can’t imagine that has happened very many times, especially with a team that retains its HC that’s coming off of a top 16 finish.

What are the chances that Tennessee will ever drop the “Lady” from their women’s sports nickname?

Seems so many used to use this type of terminology in the past but few still do.

That being said, they do return an AA setter, and a more than capable group of middles led by Granberry. The biggest question mark to me is at the pins. I know Chapman coming in has done some NTDP stuff but there is still a strong need to add portal pieces so I’m curious to see what moves they make. Libero obviously as well, but OH/DS players typically have more success with the latter classification in power 5 volleyball so I imagine they’ll have options there.

TN seems to be trying but probs just not seeing success yet. I'm pretty sure they went after Mackenzie Morris and they look to be interested in Hayden Kubrik.

I'd be shocked to see Plante at DS/L. She played on the pins during the year. Sydney Jaynes and incoming frosh Orion Drore have both done USA as well. Pin seems to be biggest need. Kerr and Granberry are 2 big pieces to build around.

Just feels like they are making moves behind the scenes. Lots of upside on Rocky Top. Program definitely trending up. TX/OK come to the SEC next year.

Not happening anytime soon.  The women's teams take alot of pride in the Lady Vol name.  It is its own brand, logo, etc.  They have their own NIL collective.  They have a merch store solely dedicated to the Lady Vol brand.  Heck the Summit blue color is designated for the women's teams.  (Mens teams get the Smokey Grey).  They are not just the Vols.  The women's teams are very much known as the Lady Vols.

you didn’t miss anything. My best guess would be playing time? But that doesn’t make the most sense with so many leaving. Unless it’s pretty clear in the practice gym who’s filling what roles this season

Lovett was the only who played.  She is grad transferring.  This is her 2nd transfer.  I'm guessing the other 3 were all about playing time or lack there of.

Looking back at last year's transfers - Jenaisya Moore was a big name. They also got Raevan Chase and Yelianiz Torres who came from mid-majors. They were big contributors for the Lady Vols. Wouldn't be surprised to see them follow the same path this year. Looking for some mid-major studs to come contribute and perhaps pick up a big name as well.

I want the team to be competitive for Kerr. I picked her up in fantasy on a whim and she became one of my favorite players.
