Looks like it’s a down year for Big West.

Looks like it’s a down year for Big West. I think the talent is there but the chemistry on the teams (besides Long Beach who has basically their whole starting line up back ) is still a work in progress. SB, UH and Irvine will get it together sooner than later

Beach just took out a good George Mason team 3-1. Patriots were digging everything, serving pretty tough, had some good terminators but hit a low % the Beach block gets hands on just about everything. Early assessment is LB is good but needs polishing. Knipe setting pretty well mixing it up better, getting up on some blocks, serving tougher (rips jump serves sometimes they need some work). He's the guy we need to have his A game all the time. Briggs is amazing. Sotiris working into shape. Torwie lost some weight and does appear quicker, and he's menacing at the net and on the serve. Knipe isn't setting the middles enough still, but more than in past years this early in the season. Bouchkov is an emotional firecracker much like Alex Nikolov was. Good block timing, very good terminator if given something decent to kill, weak float serve too many errors I think he tries to paint the top of the net a lot. Godbold is strong arming like never before. Varga and Knipe are still working out timing. Varga delivers good service pressure. Serving substitutes are top notch mostly Harlan and Bloom. Sani & Hersh should get some PT here and there.

I thought Bouchkov's serve was decent last week I really wish Knipe would have subbed out Varga a set or two by now, just to get other looks from other guys. But Knipe is not Speraw, less likely to experiment and more likely to try and just let things get ironed out. I don't buy it's all timing, they had all fall, and yes it's early, Beach isn't going anywhere with an opp hitting sub 0.200 against the likes of Long Island Sacred Heart.. and certainly hard to see moving Godbold back (one solution), but then have to get another OH2 to produce. Right now , the opp attack is the biggest issue, and yes it's early. way early, if not solved in a month, then can start to panic more. Beach serving is ok, a lot of the jump serves don't have a lot of movement, just overspin. Receiving got a little spotty. But mostly that's it for the Beach they have to vary jump serve locations better, need to get an opp attack, and receive a bit better. Mason has looked really good

Mason has looked really good I am very inclined to agree with you here, specifically with regards to putting Harlan (or maybe maybe Rodriguez if you want more physicality) at OH2. Harlan's serve and pass game is certainly elite, and the rest of his game would likely catch up with game reps. However, Clark has looked so damn good on the left that it's hard to move him back to oppo.

Northridge would score a pretty big win, if they can finish off SC
up 2-1, and down 8-10 in the 4th.
Hobus 17 kills already

They're going to the 5th set. Seems the Matador serving fell apart.
