I don’t follow pro volleyball overseas so I’m not surprised by not knowing some names but I’m concerned that I don’t know MOST of these players LOVB is signing and I don’t think I’m the only one… I understand the appeal of players signing to LOVB vs PVF and the level of play will most likely be higher but I’m not convinced the average US fan is going to buy into it as quickly because of the unfamiliar names and format (and the dumb name). Will be interesting to see how these signings translate to viewership/fan support since ultimately that will determine the leagues survival. I've had similar thoughts about the leagues, not that people will care about unfamiliar names, but I think whichever league figures out how to best market and get butts in seats will be the one that wins out. Youre correct that majority of the average fans and even the 10 year old little girls looking up to the players won't notice the difference in levels of pvf and lovb as intensely as most of us on here would. It's going to come down to who can better sell their product to the public imo I think lovb has an advantage in that they've been able to take their time and also they get to learn from any mistakes / successes pvf had as a new league It seems pretty obvious that LOVB is far superior in its marketing efforts and messaging ability (logos notwithstanding). I'm still skeptical of LOVB's match structure. PVF's match scheduling has been a problem for them because of its uneven-ness (and also facility availability), but I think PVF's basic model might be more appealing (and more familiar) than LOVB's.

isn’t wang simin good? i thought she would be a starter for a lovb team. i’m also skeptical for any current ncaa libero to play at the standards of a professional league immediately in their transition. Im hesitant (just based on what I've seen). I imagine JWO/Fleck/Kojima/Inoue/another not announced will be starters. Mary Lake could be? The rest seem/make sense for a reserve role. Maybe. They probably have that concern too. But they have to start somewhere (and a big part about having an American league is having opportunities that they cant get overseas... unless LOVb has never said that lol) I'm guessing Mary Lake is the starter for the Salt Lake team as long as she can knock the rust off. I think she'll be able to do that.

LOVB is signing two more foreign liberos. Annie Cesar (GER)and Milica Medved (SRB) weird. but also, the american liberos probably want the chance to play in PVF/earn more. (id be disappointed if this means no spots for Lexi/Elena/Oglivie/Briseno/etc) This is just my theory, but I think LOVB might be okay with letting PVF draft the players coming out of college, seeing how they perform in their first season, and then trying to sign the best ones for the following season. This would also explain why LOVB doesn't have a draft, at least for now.

Will there be a foreign player limit in LOVB? And is there a restriction like that in PVF?

Will there be a foreign player limit in LOVB? And is there a restriction like that in PVF? As far as I know, there is no limit. I believe LOVB has said they want the league to be around 75-80% American, but I don't remember exactly. Edit: okay, they said they want around four international players per team. So that would be around 30% international and 70% American.

Will there be a foreign player limit in LOVB? And is there a restriction like that in PVF? PVF’s limit is two international players per team this season. They’ve publicly stated they plan on raising that number for next season but have not officially announced the details (to my knowledge).

I just think it would be good to have them to help bridge the gap between ncaa and pro. but obviously if the ones they want dont want to come (or go elsewhere) then they're in a pickle.

avid 2.0 any idea on TV deal for lovb? I think the lack of a real TV deal is the biggest red flag for PVF for me.

i heard skinner say on an ig live while visiting her sister in italy (it was in december over her winter break)...she was asked where she was going to play professional volleyball...& she commented that she was following the money (meaning whoever is willing to pay her the most)...i feel like she’s going to play somewhere in europe (i believe her sister signed for another season in italy)
of course things could change but her future goals were to go to PA school to become a physician's assistant
