I love Hawaii's fight in this match to almost take it. I wasn't expecting it to be this close, especially after the first night.
We saw the emergence of Sakanoko as well as how good this team can be without Chakas.
Hopefully they can build on this, because it seems they still have a lot of upside and could be downright scary come tourney time.

Hawaii needs to build on this. So happy Hawaii was able to show what they are made of post Chakas. Build on that Bows. You guys stuck with #2 LBSU and on the road of the host for the NCAA tournament. Rise up from this and ball out.

Of Hawaii can build on this loss....they can be scary come BWCT. Now add in the 7th man the crowd and anything can happen.

Honestly! With Long Beach’s full roster and still making many mistakes; n we still went neck to neck with them being down a really exceptional player and adjustments. I say we definitely have an advantage later on this season. We haven’t peaked yet, but with our play tonight, we should be better the next time we meet LB. Has LB already peaked? We definitely haven’t, but Sakanoko is definitely in the mix. It’s all up hill from here! Go Bows!

Hawaii hit .248 to the Beach's .279
The blocking was the difference, with the Beach stifling Hawaii's offense to the tune of 19 total team blocks led by the big man, Simon Torwie with 10.
Hawaii outgunned the Beach with 70 kills to the Beach's 48. They also groveled on floor D with 52 digs to 41 led by the young man, Tread Rosenthal with 15.
From the service line, Hawaii went 6 aces against 26 service errors (-20) while the Beach went 3 aces against 19 errors (-16).
The Beach was also extremely low error on offense with only 5 unforced hitting errors while Hawaii committed 13 unforced hitting errors.
The sideout percentages were as close as it gets at 67% for Hawaii and 68% for LBSU which goes to show competitive the match was.
I am so proud of this Hawaii team for battling out this weekend with it being their first without Spyros Chakas. Keoni (20-10-46 .217), Louis (19-9-40 .250), and Alakai (16-7-34 .265) battled hard out there against a stalwart LBSU block and floor D.
These are names that didn't appear on Hawaii's stat sheet a year ago and they are making some noise. Congratulations to the Beach for a great series.
GO BOWS!

Beach and Irvine undefeated in conference play? When Flexen gets back, UCI might just be the team to beat, unless his passing woes gets the best of him.

And btw, with Charlie keeping Tread in there because he is our future....can he also finally come to the same mindset and do the same with Louis as well. Tbh, the Thiim experiment minus his serve isn't going to get us no natty. But with Chakas out permanently, Charlie needs to look into the future and treat Louis just like he does with Tread. Let them both take their lumps this year and learn. Because they are our future.
If Sakanoko can shore things up this season and in the off season....I like both him and Roure at the Left side holding it down.
GIVE LOUIS THE STARTING SPOT CHARLIE AND LET THAT YOUNG MAN LEARN AND TAKE HIS LUMPS!

I had a great time watching my favorite Beach players, Torwie and Briggs, do what they are best at!
I've said time and time again that the work that Simon Torwie has put it is evident. He is the NCAA's lean and mean machine. So impressed!
I will miss watching Mason Briggs play NCAA ball but, in my opinion, he looks ready to move on to the next level.
Way to go Beach!

this team already exceeded expectations... I expected alot of disarray movement, 2nd contact, and most importantly passing issues and for me they kind of passed the eye test. If they can limit their achilles heel of self-inflicted errors (30ish total team errors, I think we'll be fine and compete for a national title).
