Once the arena is built I would like to see them put some money into making the current one a more “volleyball” facility. Update the locker rooms add a team room and get a teraflex court possibly take down the middle scoreboard. Great idea, would love to see it. Could keep the wood floor underneath the Teraflex for occasional basketball use as needed. Don't know what their middle scoreboard is like, but there are versions that can be suspended by cables, then dropped down and disconnected. So it could be installed for bball and taken out for vball.
That was my thought exactly keep the basketball floor. I would assume that with four teams sharing the new facility there may be some times when they need to play a basketball game at Schoenecker. I am not even sure if the score board gets in the way of vb, but it is kind of an outdated score board anyway. I am excited to see how this group does. They were very unlucky with injuries last season. They did not bring much in. They will have a big class coming in 2025. I thought they had potential to do a lot of good things last year, but injuries made it difficult to have a consistent line up. |

This weekend was probably the best weekend St. Thomas has had in their division 1 era. They really missed Gustafson the first weekend. I am excited to see Goerger come back from injury, but it was nice having two true middles play last weekend. They rarely had that luxury last year with all the injuries. Future is bright in Tommie land.

lovebugsm any new info on the new arena and how soon it can be built? I know NIMBY's were trying to fight it. Hopefully it's already under construction. I see some newish renderings that were released in June: news.stthomas.edu/in-the-news-new-renderings-of-the-lee-and-penny-anderson-arena/Last two are a great example of how a hockey/basketball multipurpose arena can work well with seating for both sports. Wonder if that scoreboard is too low for volleyball, if they ever wanted to have a huge match in there (yearly Gopher showdown??)

So much improvement on this team! A B1G victory! I followed them pretty close last year. There were just too many injuries. I think they only had one healthy true middle for a lot of the year. They are fun to watch this year! I’m really hoping they can finish in the top half of the summit league. First though, they need to win this game against Milwaukee!

UST is 6-1 in September; one loss to Minnesota and six wins that are all considered Pablo upsets. Will be fun to watch them hopefully climb the Pablo rankings throughout the season.

What are the Pablo rankings? An independent predictive/ranking system created by a guy here on VT who used to call himself "Pablo." Essentially, it orders all of the teams based on the matches that they have all played, in a way that minimizes upsets or "surprising" results. |
