UST is 6-1 in September; one loss to Minnesota and six wins that are all considered Pablo upsets. Will be fun to watch them hopefully climb the Pablo rankings throughout the season. Also Gustafson didn’t play the first week. I think she would have helped them win at least one of the matches. She is solid all the way around.

Saw that UST has received the largest individual scholarship endowment gift to a university in the state of Minnesota.
There clearly are some motivated and wealthy benefactors to St Thomas who want to make some great things happen for the school.
I would love to see the U vs UST develop into something comparable to Nebraska - Creighton and Wisconsin - Marquette, in non-football sports. Don't see UST every going higher than FCS in football, but I suppose crazier things have happened (guessing Liberty U is the closest example, but they have a massive funding mechanism that few other schools have).

So I actually heard that the real reason the St. Tomas was kicked out of their D3 conference is because of what they could offer their student athletes. Their conference did not allow athletic scholarships but obviously you could get academic ones. I heard that very average students were getting a lot of academic money to go there. Basically full rides. The rest of the conference could not keep up with their endowments. I am enjoying them being D1 where they can just celebrate the money they are receiving.

I also heard (nothing more than internet message board rumors, mind you) that the whole thing of "kicking UST out of the conference" was an orchestrated performance, in order to give UST a justification to ask for a waiver from the NCAA's 13 year prohibition of DIII schools moving up to DI.
That is an absurd requirement, anyway, so such a move would have been beneficial to both sides, since UST wanted out and the rest of the MIAC wanted them out.

As a 2015 Tommie student athlete grad near the height of UST's D3 dominance, this is not true lol not even for the cherished football squad. I am very glad of the system change for the school and am excited for a University with rich history and of course generous alums to keep progressing in athletics

I had my own game and couldn’t watch. Anyone know why Gustafson didn’t play?

I will… will… WILL get a matches-thread up for the Tommies at UNDSU (or should it be NDSUND because of the order we play them?) Back in Minnesota, but tired all morning and afternoon from jet lag, and Gopher home match tonight.
