It's not a good start to conference, but as Coach Wade said right now, it's improving and finding that mesh of players moving forward and being better come tournament time. That aside, Wade needs to do a better job at calling time outs. For me, I never understood why a coach calls time out when the opposing team reaches 24 and you have 20 or 21. I know it's icing the server, but it also puts pressure on your team to make that one big play or set is done. At least at 23, there's less pressure of one miscue and pau. Just my thoughts on that. But Hawaii was up at 11-10 (or something) and CSUN goes on a 4 pt run and no timeout?? All the momentum now on CSUN and Hawaii never found its footing after that. This!

When ALL of your pins hit over .340 with double digit kills, you're gonna win a few matches or be in it all the way through.

Problem is we as a fan base been so spoiled winning against teams like CSUN for years and easily. Tonight definitely was a bitter taste but they gonna learn from it. Impressed by CSUN. Never said die! They never looked rattled at any point tonight. Gotta give them a lot of credit. They were passing nails almost all night. Even when you thought Hawaii got them out of system, they would just flip the ball to a pin hitter and one of them got a kill or ended up putting Hawaii in shambles.

That former UH back up setter who transferred to ucsb. Is he the starting setter for the gauchos?

Hawai’i just never seemed at 100% in all facets of the game. A part of that was CSUN’s ability to keep pressuring them consistently from the service line (mixing it up) and on offense and defense.
Passing broke down in that 4th set, mind you a couple horrible passes off of a float serve! That cannot happen, and shouldn’t happen, tbh. Rosenthal couldn’t get one on ones with those passes, and it became obvious where his sets was going, with CSUN’s block just waiting.
At this point, Hawai’i should really focus on two things - passing and playing consistently.
Passing needs to be on point every point, from start to finish so Rosenthal can create those one on one opportunities. Consistency, whether it’s hitting, serving, and or playing defense - stay consistent and trust in your ability to make a play happen. It’ll help keep the rhythm flowing.
One thing I noticed about Spyros when he would play, is that he knew he was going to get a kill, whether it was a good set or bad set, and he would find a way to make it happen. His belief in his ability to make it work is what set him apart. If Sakanoko can develop that mentality and put it into play every set he gets, he’s going to be way bigger than what he’s showing us now. And that is scary good!

I mean they are only 1 player deep at the outside.. EVERY OTHER POSITION is set lol .. Hawaiis bench is pretty short and weak this year!!

The BIGGEST disappointment is Our senior outside hitter.. I don’t know if it’s injuries but he hasn’t improved since his sophomore year!!!

Right, but it's understanding your role and then the roles of others that can affect your entire chemistry. It's knowing and anticipating that the previous starter would always cover the tips or whatever it may be...whereas now, you know you may need to put that extra bump into your step.

Not trying to rile up you Hawaii fans,
But the bows are maybe a top 10 team without chakas.
So tough for a team that had it all and to lose such a good player like chakas. Truly upsetting.

Choy’s stats were also kind of lackluster tonight. 1 assist, 5 digs, and 3 reception errors. Would love to see more digs from him and not shy away from the ball, especially those middle one sets, step in there and eat it up. Get hit, don’t be afraid. That one play he got six packed in the 4th, he turned his head at the last second instead of putting his hands up to absorb the hit.
Would also love to see him more vocal on serve receive. Want to see that fire he had at the beginning of the season, that first game against Loyola.
