There is LOTS of bad blood between Ermacora/Waller and Seidl/Pristauz. Ermacora/Waller felt betrayed because Seidl/Pristauz dumped them behind their back and didn‘t even gave the gut to tell them face-to-face. Someone from the federation had to tell Ermacora/waller the news.

USA3 through to the Quarters. Looking forward, I have a question about the timing of calculating Entry Points for events. For example, thinking of Treo, at what date are their Entry Points calculated for the Brasilia E16, which has dates listed of May 1-5? Is it their Entry Point total as of today, or Monday, or what date? I seem to remember something about 30 days prior, but I'm just not sure.
Found it. It is 28 days. Therefore, on Monday Treo's Entry Points must include the Saquarema result. This drops their new Entry Point Total from a current 1820 to 1520. I don't think this gets them into the Brasilia Qualifier. They'd be a few teams down the Reserve List.
At the same time, Budinger's Entry Points which are currently 2000, which includes a 720 which will be timed out, would drop to 1880 if they do not advance to Semifinals. If they finish 3rd, their Entry Points remain at 2000. That might get them into MD, depends on how a bunch of teams do tonight and tomorrow.
On my site I show the seeding date at the top of the tournament pages. This is the exact date for the entry points

Just watched Budinger/Evans match against NOR2, they played a really good game and never really seemed stressed even when Norway was up some early in set 2. I actually enjoy watching H. Mol play because he either blisters the ball into the sand, or collapses on the ground/screams with frustration any time he makes an error. It looks like he’s contemplating retirement every time he just plops on the ground, it’s very entertaining.
That was a great example of how good Budinger/Evans system is when everything’s clicking. The way they pass so well for the option and use the entire length of the net clearly had Mol fatigued, they kept going back and forth who they were serving too. Also since we are talking about their coaching, I remember in the winter there were instagram videos of their practice drills where they hit into a boogie board and recycle the play for a whole minute straight. I’ve noticed this tournament (and last) that they really are good at covering/recycling plays and scoring, so it’s nice to see what they work on translate into their play

Considering the fact that Pristauz and Seidl broke up with their respective partners, I don't think these ex-partners (Ermacora / Waller) have much sympathy for them. And they won't help them to collect the points they need. The Austrian Federation is probably staying out of it. sure, I get that. Some Federations might by hands on, others hands off. At this point in time, at least as far as the Olympics is concerned, AUT will either have Pristauz/Seidl as AUT2, or there won't be an AUT2. Whether the Federation cares is another question. I don’t think there is much the federation could do here. No way they could force a team to forfeit and also trying to limit participation when teams have the points and earn their spot in the tournament is an issue. Ermacora/Waller have one very unlikely but not impossible path to the Olympics: 1. Pristauz/Seidl don’t qualify 2. Austria wins the Continental Cup in Europe 3. They position themselves as the team who deserves that spot. This could be if they play Continental Cup and Seidl/Pristauz don’t because they focus on qualifying via the top 18. Or they clearly outperform Seidl/Pristauz over the next months and make a case for being the better team. So today they did everything to help keep their very slim chances alive.

I owe Bassereau and Lyneel an apology for previous slander in this thread haha. They're playing well.

Mudinger fall apart in game 2 to complete Andre/George's sweep of tier 2 US teams. Thought they might be more competitive than that.

Mudinger fall apart in game 2 to complete Andre/George's sweep of tier 2 US teams. Thought they might be more competitive than that. My take on George/Andre as a team is that they’re extremely good at forcing teams that rely on a particular system of play to sideout to play outside that system. But once teams are composed of elite sideout players who don’t need to execute a particular system (top European teams come to mind), George can’t quite keep up siding out.

Austria controlt he first set against the Cuban's. Alayo was playing badly.
Cuban's destroy the Austrian's the second. So many errors from them and they got destroyed by the serves from Cuba. Cuba are serving bombs.
Third set is a repeat of the 2nd so far.

Another CUB-BRA gold match this week.

He definitely couldn't today. Diaz has cement feet but any top defender would have been digging George every ball in the 2nd and 3rd. Have to feel for Alayo, he must have made a poor play in the 3rd, but I can't remember it. As soon as Brazil started going to Diaz, it seemed like every serve by either side was a point scoring chance.

Amazing final. Cuba must be devastated after getting an open net swing for the match and still losing the match. But right there you could see the difference between these two teams: Defense! George somehow kept that ball alive like he's done many times. The cuban defender on the oter hand just isn't good on defense imo. He definitely should have dug some of those sky high/deflected line shots by George. Nevertheless Cuba is a fun team to watch!

Perhaps their Federation doesn't have the money to send them all over the globe... but a Floridian entrepreneur could front them the money and still make a good profit, splitting the earnings with them. They are definitely top 10 in the world. I'd take them over Brouwer / Meeuwsen.
Alayo is prime time. Diaz does need to face top teams more often to refine his defensive skills... well actually his attacking skills as well v. top defenders. I wish they would play most of the remaining FIVB tournaments over the next two months, if for no other reason than to better prep for the Olympics, where they could make a good run.
Or Canada could pay their travel so that Cuba makes Top 18, and CAN could then be the favorite to qualify via the NORCECA Olympic qualifier in June.

Agree with all the above. I don’t know much about the Cuban federation/government, but I hope this team’s performance over the last two weeks opens some eyes among the decision makers there that the potential is there for a really special team capable of reaching the highest levels of the sport. They’re still only 21 and 22! Diaz definitely needs to improve his defense and his side out consistency. And I wish he had used his topspin jumper in the gold match after all the damage it did in the semifinal. Alayo is so athletic and remarkably consistent for his age. Really excited to see where this team goes from here, provided they are allowed to do so.
