I would love to see this Cuba team play regularly. Perhaps their Federation doesn't have the money to send them all over the globe... but a Floridian entrepreneur could front them the money and still make a good profit, splitting the earnings with them. They are definitely top 10 in the world. I'd take them over Brouwer / Meeuwsen.
Alayo is prime time. Diaz does need to face top teams more often to refine his defensive skills... well actually his attacking skills as well v. top defenders. I wish they would play most of the remaining FIVB tournaments over the next two months, if for no other reason than to better prep for the Olympics, where they could make a good run.
Or Canada could pay their travel so that Cuba makes Top 18, and CAN could then be the favorite to qualify via the NORCECA Olympic qualifier in June.
Agree with all the above. I don’t know much about the Cuban federation/government, but I hope this team’s performance over the last two weeks opens some eyes among the decision makers there that the potential is there for a really special team capable of reaching the highest levels of the sport. They’re still only 21 and 22! Diaz definitely needs to improve his defense and his side out consistency. And I wish he had used his topspin jumper in the gold match after all the damage it did in the semifinal. Alayo is so athletic and remarkably consistent for his age. Really excited to see where this team goes from here, provided they are allowed to do so. Alayo is that young? ? He looks and plays like he's 28. These guys could medal in LA in 2028. Heck if Diaz progresses quickly they could contend for a medal in Paris. They just gave the 8th ranked team in the world all they could handle on their home court.

He looks young and played an age group comp in 2018. hehe no particular reason other than I remember some Little League Baseball International teams in the past have brought players to the World Series much older than the rules allowed owing to lying about date of birth.
But, for me, I had assumed Alayo was about 28-30 just based on his facial contours, lack of facial baby fat, and complete composure and good decision making on the court, etc. I mean look at Diaz, look at Ahman, look at Partain, then look at Alayo. Alayo could be his father LOL just like Jake Gibb looked like he could be Taylor's father. Not to be political but I trust totalitarian dictatorships, including Communist governments, about as far as I could spit them.

It is common knowledge that the African soccer teams lie about their age. They win a lot in youth competitions. Much more than they do in adult competitions.

Alayo played at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires in 2018 and he already looked like the father of all other players back then, lol Ahman/Hellvig won gold, Cuba lost to the Bello brothers and Tim Brewster, DeGroot (NL), Sedlak (CZ), Nicolaidis (AUS) are also part of that generation youtholympics.2018.fivb.com/en/schedule#/d20181018Been told that the Cubans don’t keep their prize money and their federation takes it to pay for their coach and travel expenses. As wrong as it is, hopefully these good results mean they can keep competing

Amazing final. Cuba must be devastated after getting an open net swing for the match and still losing the match. But right there you could see the difference between these two teams: Defense! George somehow kept that ball alive like he's done many times. The cuban defender on the oter hand just isn't good on defense imo. He definitely should have dug some of those sky high/deflected line shots by George. Nevertheless Cuba is a fun team to watch! I would love to see this Cuba team play regularly. Vikings Czechs Swedes Miles/Andy Boerman/DeGroot Italy 1 Poland Germany Cherif/Ahmed Evandro Andre Thats 11. What two teams on that list are they better than?

When I said ARE a top 10 team, that is present tense. These past two weeks that is evident. What will be, who knows. We'll know more in Guadalajara, which is a stacked Challenger b/c Andre, Evandro, and Boermans will all be there.

Brouwer/Meeuwsen arent on that list. Top 10 based on their 2024 results seems like a reach. Consider these two teams, lets call them Cuba and Team B. In 2024, both played the two Brazilian Challenges and had near identical match winning percentages. (Cuba was slightly ahead with a .642 winning percentage to Team B's .636% winning percentage, game winning percentages also very close) Both have lost 3 matches to mid-level Challenge teams this year. Those matches are: Both played the Brazilian WC and lost in Saquarema Both played the Bellos and lost Both lost one other match to a mid-level Challenge team. (Cuba to Krattinger/Beer in 2, Team B to Chase/Miles). Cuba also lost to Brazil 1 and 2, Team B has only lost the 3 matches above. At this point, there is nothing in these results to separate these two teams. But as you correctly point out, Cuba played Andre/George very close in an elimination game. So lets add that to our equation. Cuba played Andre/George close in an elimination match and lost. Team B also played Andre/George in an elimination match and sent them home.So what is the difference between these two teams in their performances this year? Maybe its wins. Cubas two best wins are against Pedro/Guto and one of the Austrians Team B has beaten Andre/George and Ukraine. BTW Team B is the Dutch 4.

In their last 4 events, Poland 1 has stomped Andy/Miles twice, beaten Germany twice, and beaten Italy 1. In their last 4 Cuba has beaten the Bellos and Pedro/Guto

As I said, we'll find out if it was out of the norm when they play in Guadalajara and Tepic next.
you better be careful with thos opinions... I'll tell on you to Thevolleymaster if you continue, and get you banned.
