They have to change the Challenger format, right? Either make it a 16 or 32 team field… Or if they want to stay at 24 then make 8 pools with 3 teams each or double elimination or whatever. This system simply sucks

This system simply sucks What will it take for the FIVB to act? All pool winning matches forfeited? We're 2/3 of the way there on the men's side.

Ya I have to imagine they will change the format after this. Just a bummer because any traditional pool play format allows for ties and essentially randomness for who gets eliminated from the pool. Double elimination might be the way to go then
Or if they won’t want to change the format could we potentially see a fine imposed. Or maybe requiring the whole tournament to be forfeited if you forfeit one match
Maybe they could even incentivize further by offering a bonus pot of money for pool winners

I find these ‘tactical forfeits’ very unsportsmanlike, almost like cheating… Everyone (players, organisers, tv rights owners..) want stadiums full with spectators but this is how the fans get treated. Yes, the current system allows it, but in my view, it is ultimately the teams’ responsibility to keep the competition clean and not adulterated. Thoughts?

Alex Walkenhorst and his podcast team have the mantra „growing the game“. Those teams here do exactly the opposite

"Serve into the net 21 times. Ok great, take six months off for conduct detrimental to the game. Then we will let you apply to possibly come back."

Looks like we're going to get a full six for six forfeits. CUB vs UKR has been moved to Center Court, which was supposed to be Grimalts vs Ermacora/Waller. And over on Court Two, Aravena/Droguett were warming up but Krattiger/Breer never showed up.

Maybe all 12 players were meeting with the promoter to try and convince him to hold the event again next year and just lost track of time

but taking this action might be their idea of getting optimal results in their head, so kinda hard to blame them but I get it
there must be changes after this quad/year
