Jeeez, this thread is a worm for brains sometimes. Or maybe just the Nebraska faithful ha. As someone with a bevy of mental health issues, I somehow have managed not to drink and drive… ever! It’s actually easy to not do. Maybe she needs to take a note from Hayley Hodson or Jenna Gabriel if she’s finding it so tough to deal with *checks notes* a really privileged role in Nebraska. Meh. There are plenty of issues you have that other people think, “just don’t do that. It’s easy!” I don’t know you or anything about you. I just know it’s true for all of us. She hasn’t had any DUI offenses since then, so maybe that’s her only one. No way to know. And it’s not really my business any way. I have people who are close to me that in some ways have much worse issues than she’s going through - not to be dismissive of her issues - and there’s a great deal of helplessness involved. I choose hope over judgement.

And yet it’s possible to do too much as well. I think it’s fairer to say there are no easy answers when it comes to mental health. My experience has been that many so called solutions end up being worse in some ways than the initial problem. There’s only so much a college program can do in terms of monitoring and enforcing social media usage. I feel like you’re implying the obvious right answer is more monitoring and more control, when it’s not clear to me the right answer is obvious. To me the problem starts much younger. We need to be emphasizing the compelling dynamics of social media and how we’re hardwired as human beings to engage with it (programmers know this and specifically design software to create compulsive and addictive interactions for monetization purposes). There needs to be a better awareness around what social media activity does to our brains and how we interact with one another. There needs to be a lot more purposefulness that this is the way we want to move forward as a society. If our only solution is to depend on college athletic departments to monitor and enforce the social media usage of young athletes I don’t think that’s any kind of solution whatsoever. I’m not even sure a lot of it would hold up in court, frankly. Especially any kind of monitoring and enforcement that was actually effective in curtailing damaging behavior. There are plenty of people who would not appreciate that level of monitoring and enforcement and see it as intrusive and excessive. He's not saying there's an obvious solution. He's saying "this is a step we could take," and saying Nebraska could be doing a better job in this regard. I think there's an argument to be made there. And I guess what I would say is that it’s easy to backseat drive and tell someone else they should be doing more when we don’t have to be specific about what that entails and don’t have to deal with the consequences when it turns out to be the wrong decision. And we don’t even have any idea what is and what isn’t going on other than a brief snapshot from an ESPN article that wasn’t focused on Nebraska’s response as much as Murray’s experience in the first place. Edit - I should add that article is giving evidence of a HUGE amount of resources being devoted to Murray. It’s not clear to me based on that article what more Nebraska should be doing.

Harper has been through a lot. She has made some huge mistakes and serving her duties for the penalties assessed in this situation. It is not like has a shady back ground or done anything wrong before all of this happened. I feel like her world came crashing down when they lost to Texas and she made some very bad decisions. I like that John Cook is working with her to make sure Harper is being the best version of herself. She is very fortunate no else got hurt and hopefully at some point the haters can move on and leave this kid alone. This crap happens in college football every week and most coaches handle it in a very similar manner. Time to move on

Yet this article seems to make the precise association. I don’t like it !!

ESPN is keeping it real. I did not read this thread until I read the article on ESPN. People magazine and TMZ will now jump in. This thread hits 100 pages before Halloween.

Not everyone handles mental health the same way - and as she said, she was in self-destruct mode. It’s been talked about enough is enough for fu ck’s sake. a lot of you are sick for the way you talk about it.

The person who wrote the article had spent a lot of time with her and her family, whereas you probably haven't.

I do know one causes more deaths than the other ! She also stole lol. The commenters saying that probably have mental health issues, too. They must — no one with good mental health says stuff like that. It’s not an excuse. If this is how she reacts to the pressure, she should transfer. It’s not going anywhere. So it’s odd to point out unique pressure (which leads to a laundry list of privileges) as a reason for her bad behavior, while also suggesting that doing the same stuff will result in better decisions.

I can't believe this thread is still going lol There have been 89 pages of posts (so far) about a single Wisconsin/Louisville volleyball match that happened just two days ago. Why would it be surprising that this thread would reach 84 pages (so far)?

Ah, a Texas fan’s agenda is revealed. Your intention to harass Harper with the hopes of getting her to transfer has been noted, and soon, you, too, will be exposed. 😌
