I would take Bricio without consideration of the ensemble around her, while I don’t think I would ever say that about Fields. This is articulated well and what I was going for But I was like ummm what exactly are they seeing in Fields to be so shocked as to why I don't think she's above the past list of USC go-to's. I was too young for April Ross too, and those USC teams seemed to have been loaded, so, I couldn't really mention her relative to Fields / the others.

Whoa. Recency bias? Maybe a little bit? Wouldn't recency bias mean I'd favor Fields over the others? Maybe I worded it weird - but, I'd take the other 4 first before her. I think some people may have missed the word "last" in your original comment. It was worded fine.

in terms of once in a generation player - mireya luis. Yeah, that's exactly the kind of player that could potentially do it. An 11'1.5" jump touch at 5'9."

Rita Crockett was also 5’ 9”, with a 42” vertical, just a few inches less than Luis (~10’ 9 vs 11’)

This is a fantastic discussion. I am both a strong basketball and volleyball fan as most of the folks in this thread. I am thinking of the type of college volleyball player that attracts non volleyball fans, and her spirit impacts her team and the crowd in a positive way. I am thinking of Jill Gillen, the 5-7 Arkansas hitter. She could have been hyped more by the SEC and the SEC network, and NCAA volleyball. I enjoy reading about the former GOATs and I really try to remember which ones had the most oncourt charisma, that was not suppressed by their coach.

Meh. Right now, Skinner is Oganna Nnamani twenty years ago.

Meh. Right now, Skinner is Oganna Nnamani twenty years ago. Meh? That's a strange expression for such a statement. Marketed differently, I think Nnamani would have been a compelling figure.

Do you think Skinner is significantly better than Nnamani? Of course, we have yet to see if she actually is, but even with great marketing, I think the answer is no (and in relation to the thread topic, neither gets close to approaching what Clark is doing).

April Ross gets underrated because of the balance of those USC teams (6-2 depressing kill numbers), and because Burdine had bigger moments in "crunch time" to win the titles - even though Ross was the consistent carrier of the team. Ross is IMO the most underrated player of that decade. Christal Morrison, who never really got her due, is a close second.

I feel like Morrison has been given a ton of credit whenever that championship 05 team is mentioned ?

Comparing Skinner to Nnamani is a compliment, or don’t you think so? (Or maybe you just don’t know.). Nnamani won a National Championship her freshman year, beating a #1 ranked and undefeated Long Beach team. She lost out Logan Tom for MVP, but made all tourney and had 19 kills. Nnamani returned to the Final in 2002 and the all tourney team, losing to USC. In 2004, she won another National Championship and was MVP in one of the most dominating performances ever. Of course, she was also an Olympian. So, feel free to tell me how Skinner gets to Caitlin Clark status. And you still don’t understand the comment I made about Asjia hitting the slide to the deep line, so I won’t bother explaining it to you again.

Have you been watching Asjia in PVF? She’s trying to hit sharper angle. You should also go back and look at her VNL attack stats. As far as the Logan comment, the point was that picking the shot that depended on the defender deciding whether the ball was in or out as the “Wow” shot didn’t make sense when there were several other attacks in that video where Logan was completely terminal.
