The team needs some kind of leadership, an upperclassmen to help guide them, preferably a vocal leader as this past season with the seniors in the squad and no one to step up as the vocal leader. Some might not want to hear this but I'd give that honor to Kurt. Lol Kurt is a smart guy and has good VB IQ, you can tell from his interviews with Tiff or on tv. People just like to hate on him bcuz he has "that look"

He’ll need to impress to get playing time otherwise people will think he’s up there because of nepotism. In highschool he is good but not impressive so lots of work to do for him. The difference between Knipe and Charlie is that Charlie will actually bench his kid if he isn't playing up to par with what a D1 player is suppose to do. Charlie got too much talent coming in and a really competitive bunch too allow nepotism to flourish. Hawaii needs to be happy that a kid of that much talent is coming on board as a "walk on" because he is the coaches son. Most schools would easily give the boy scholarship money to have someone like him on board and he could easily start at many different schools.

I do hope Kainoa Wade will prove me wrong but every time i see him play I just see a really moldable kid with potential to be great, I don’t necessarily see an incredible volleyball player.
Maybe it’s just because I’ve seen kids who are just so much more dynamic but if he develops fast physically and improves his general skill set, I can see him becoming a force down the line.

Rado wasn't fast by any means but he had the tools necessary and it actually didn't come together until his Junior year. I think with Kainoa being the coaches son and expectations he puts on himself, he looks the type that will really put in the work to try and make it onto the starting court. It will be difficult with Kristian and Finn coming on board. But not impossible.

I think with Rado, he had a heavy arm right off the bat with a whip on top of it, and had the size that could be turned to more muscle mass vs Wade who looks like he’ll need to put more on. I’m not sure if he’s contacting the ball unstoppably high like a Zach Rama who has a similar build but I’m hoping he’s somewhere close to that

Anyone know why the Star Advertiser doesnt rank boys volleyball?
They do football/girl's volleyball, boys/girls basketball, baseball/softball. Guessing boy's volleyball not popular enough to do rankings? Just curious.

I maybe in the minority but I actually feel Wade staying in high school would’ve been better for the program… spreading the talent out more.. he could’ve red shirt in 2026.. freshman in 2027 with our Bulgarian opposite being a junior..

I too think Kainoa should benefit from staying in high school. Give his body one more year to develop. The skill and IQ is there, just lacking power, velocity and pace to his hits. The potential is there, everybody can see it, just not quite ready to the next level yet. I think one more year with hopefully tougher competion, like becoming a U19 or U20 member would do him good.

I see Kainoa redshirting a year. He's more likely than most to stick with the program, trust the process and his coaches, strive for academic and athletic success, and be around the program for at least four years. He does that, he'll get opportunities to make an impact.

Dinner at the Wade's residence will be interesting. I see it going something like this: KW: Dad, I can hit and block at an elite level now, so can I start? CW: Can you pass at an elite level? KW: Uh not yet, but I can bend my knees now. CW: Uh well let me think...No KW: Why not? CW: Because we want to win dude! :-) Wade places a high priority on a LS pin's ability to pass well not just the flashy stuff. A few year's back I recall a terminal pin named Matautia who I was certain was going to own that OH spot but viola, he was beaten out by Brett Rosenmeier who wasn't nearly as flashy or terminal as a hitter but had his passing skills down pat. I really hope to see improvements in the passing game from Sakanoko and the new horde of frosh hitters. I agree with several posters who believe that KW needs to develop his backcourt skills and get stronger before he can make his mark as a Warrior, but it will take time and patience . I'm sure he will be good in time. The same can probably be said about the other newbies that are coming aboard.

He won't benefit with anything staying in high school his final year. Sounds like people want him to stay a year to even out the classes which is ridiculous tbh. Even if he redshirts his first year in college...he will be more prepared for D1 than if he stayed in high school. And btw, everyone seems to constantly ve overlooking that young man. Gosh, if that boy does shine in the off season and really puts in the work and outshines everyone else in his position (not likely but nothing is impossible), I can't even imagine what they will say about him and Charlie if Charlie gives the boy a shot because of his play in practices. Watch the nepotism talk come out fast and furious! Crazy how people seem to be overlooking him.
