Dinner at the Wade's residence will be interesting. I see it going something like this: KW: Dad, I can hit and block at an elite level now, so can I start? CW: Can you pass at an elite level? KW: Uh not yet, but I can bend my knees now. CW: Uh well let me think...No KW: Why not? CW: Because we want to win dude! :-) Wade places a high priority on a LS pin's ability to pass well not just the flashy stuff. A few year's back I recall a terminal pin named Matautia who I was certain was going to own that OH spot but voila, he was beaten out by Brett Rosenmeier who wasn't nearly as flashy or terminal as a hitter but had his passing skills down pat. I really hope to see improvements in the passing game from Sakanoko and the new horde of frosh hitters. I agree with several posters who believe that KW needs to develop his backcourt skills and get stronger before he can make his mark as a Warrior, but it will take time and patience . I'm sure he will be good in time. The same can probably be said about the other newbies that are coming aboard.
Agreed. The same can be said for all of them coming in for sure. We don't know how any of these players will translate in D1 volleyball. We may have a general idea but we for sure don't know. So people already not giving that boy even a benefit of the doubt is crazy to me!

I see Kainoa redshirting a year. He's more likely than most to stick with the program, trust the process and his coaches, strive for academic and athletic success, and be around the program for at least four years. He does that, he'll get opportunities to make an impact. Yup! He out of them all coming in I can guarantee and state that he will be here all 4 years. Can we truly say that about every single one of them coming in with him? What if they aren't given the playing time they expected? Kearney, Hasan, Roure, Titryski? Nope! We can't guarantee that with none of them but Kainoa as it stands.

So people already not giving that boy even a benefit of the doubt is crazy to me! for sure he is most likely of all players to stay and never transfer. But as far as how his dad uses him and decides playing time, it is uncharted territory. Before Aiden went to LB no one knew how that would go, Aiden even played for an entirely different juniors club than Knipe's staff ran and he set in a 6-2 most of the time. I don't think anyone suspected that he wouldn't recruit a serious alternate setter to his sun for 3 years. Wade on teh pin is a different story as there will be loads of talent next to him for teh entire time but no one but coach Wade knows how he will distribute PT and allocate chances on the A side or B side and scrimmages. From day one the coaching staff needs to decide who gets what chances... having one of the players be the coach's son makes it complicated.

I think he'll just stagnate if he keeps playing with his current teammates Right. What is to benefit if he stays in high school where he is clearly head over heels better than most everyone else? He won't benefit with anything staying in high school his final year. Sounds like people want him to stay a year to even out the classes which is ridiculous tbh. Even if he redshirts his first year in college...he will be more prepared for D1 than if he stayed in high school. And btw, everyone seems to constantly ve overlooking that young man. Gosh, if that boy does shine in the off season and really puts in the work and outshines everyone else in his position (not likely but nothing is impossible), I can't even imagine what they will say about him and Charlie if Charlie gives the boy a shot because of his play in practices. Watch the nepotism talk come out fast and furious! Crazy how people seem to be overlooking him. Is club ball that bad in Hawaii right now? People keep talking about High School when HS school ball means little. Just because it’s the stuff fans have the most access to, viewership wise, doesn’t mean that’s where he is going to be doing the most of his developing. The Boys Club season is twice the length of the the boys High School season, at least it is in California. The difference between Wade and Tread who also graduated early is that Rosenthal played for one of if not the top clubs in the country, had multiple years of international experience, his position was the most needed one by the program, and he was PHYSICALLY very developed young man. Whereas Kainoa has none of that to his name and still has the game of a talented tall young boy. I don’t doubt that he will benefit from competing against better more physical players in college within the UH gym but I think it’s equally valid that finishing out his last year of high school would be a fine choice and I don’t think we should be dismissing the thoughts of those who think the same thing. At the end of the day it is his, his family’s, and the coaching staff’s choice. We won’t know until the end his career or when he starts playing regularly what the best choice was.

Gosh, i remember going to vball games in Hawaii when my cousins played and state of hawaii produced some of the greatest: metzger, shojis, crabbs, christensen, wongs, fred robins, mclachlin, lawson!

zyewchuk I just want to thank Hawaii for everything it has taught me over the past 2.5 years, and for all the support I've received from the island; and to say that I have recently entered the transfer portal. I will always remember my time here and the great friends l've made along the way. I'm super excited for next year and can't wait to start training with @spartanmvb back in Canada. Mahalo again!

Well the idea of him staying in high school one more year is null and void because he is coming whether people want it to happen or not. So I'm not sure why people continue to bring it up when he is already on his way to UH and it's clear as day. I agree, no one knows if he made the best decision until after his career is over. But I find it oddly hilarious that people are not even giving him the chance to prove himself and he hasn't even stepped foot in Manoa yet.

This was bound to happen. With all the hotshots coming in, Yewchuk was not going to get much of a good look. It also might be an indication that Aruya is coming so now there is even less room on the roster for him. Then there is Roman Payne due in next season. All the MBs have international experience and are highly touted. As good as Zac is, he will have to overcome all the hype given to these incoming U19 participants and also Ofeck for being part of his country NT. Maybe even teammate's Justin Todd move to the middle could have made it even more tough to get PT.

I maybe in the minority but I actually feel Wade staying in high school would’ve been better for the program… spreading the talent out more.. he could’ve red shirt in 2026.. freshman in 2027 with our Bulgarian opposite being a junior.. Pure speculation, but I think it's worth mentioning. Charlie turns 61 this year. While I don't know if UH staff get any kind of discount for their kids to attend UH, it would be beneficial for the Wade family if Kainoa enrolls early. Even if Kainoa redshirts in his first year and assuming Charlie works until Kainoa graduates, it would put Charlie at 66 years old. Another year in high school and a redshirt year at UH for Kainoa just prolongs retirement for Charlie.

Only 6 credits/semester for theirselves or their spouse
