A fun and interesting question to ask Charlie would be if he ever thought of making Kainoa a setter earlier in his hanabatta days. Hawaii has put out some very good settersâŠ.both on the menâs and women side. Being a coach, did he want his son to be the âquarterbackâ of a team? Kainoa stepped in to open hand set some balls in the championship match, and looked really clean doing it. Didn't get called for any mishandles.

I wondered because many former local volleyball stars kids were setters. Pono Ma'a had Micah and Melana. Shoji had Kawika. I believe Damien Hardy's kid was also a setter. The list of good Hawaii setters is long. Will Stanley, Fionna Nspo, Lindsay Berg, the Akeo girls who went to Pitt. Jhenna Gabriel(Darrel Gabriel's daughter), etc... Both setters on the Olympic team are local kids.

i liked that he went away from the stereotype where the coach's son becomes the pitcher or the QB

Wade is going to remind Kristian of that fact and put tons of pressure on that young man to continue this trend. He will respond and become freshman of the year and be an AA. Mark it down! đ€Ł

If not, Finn being the shortest of the three probably doesn't bode well. I haven't seen him passing much in club so we'll see, it's like UCLA with all the options.

Yes and we needed that depth to have a successful/championship season as this past season showed us.

On a call the coach show, Charlie said he has told Finn that he should be open to being an OH if he has any aspirations to move up to the NT. 6-5/6-6 is not a typical size for an OPP at the international level so moving to OH will help him in many ways. Wade mentioned that Finn understands that and is willing to give it a shot. Some players just need to move around a bit to see where they best fit. I wouldnât count the kid out just because we have tons of talent coming in. Finn was named best OPP and Best Server in the U19 championship 2 years ago so the kid can ball. This past U19, he might have struggled but being best OPP and best server as a Jr in the jr world championship is no slouch. I think guys like Sean Kelley, Sterling Foley and Zach Rama was on that team and Finn beat out all of them for best server award. No easy task. Adrienâs all around skills could be hard to beat but Louis better step it up cause Finn can serve with the best of them and Finn will be a threat to his starting spot. I know a few here are not high on him but maybe that could feel his fire and come here and scorch earth and prove the doubters wrong. You canât canât make the U19 team twice and not be an elite level player.

He is without a doubt an elite level player, unfortunately, Hawaii looks like it's going to be stacked with them. But that's a good problem for the program, not so much for the players.

I think fans tend to fall in love with the latest best thing. Itâs just human nature, I guess. Finn committed about 2 years ago so we all used up all our love for him. Then Louis, Adrien and now Kainoa come aboard and we forget about our previous love. If another stud was to be announced joining the team, you can bet fans will fall for this kid too. If Josh Aruya, Cam Thorne, or Wesley Smith was to announce a transfer to Hawaii, Kurt Nusterer will be push back to âyesterdayâs newsâ. đ

I stand corrected but that is still an accomplishment considering he beat out his other highly regarded teammates for that award. Even though the competition was not at the WC level, he was able to take that award from his teammates and not just other teams. We shall see though. Like I mentioned, everybody love the next best thing and the recent recruits falls under that category.

I believe the backup outsides were Sani and Loiola
