San Diego seems a bit high for me on the poll this year, but time will show. I'd swap them and OSU.

Washington State with a new coach and new team projected to be middle of the pack... hard to guess what they will look like.
(Three people in the thread poll picked Gonzaga to finish first?!)

Pretty cool that a team like OSU now gets a shot at winning a conference championship! GoBeav’s!

WCC teams go 6-5 on day 1 of the season. The three 5 set losses by WSU, St. Mary's, and Pacific could have gone either way though.

Day 1 scores:
Portland over Stetson 3-0 Portland over Bethune Cookman 3-2 Gonzaga over Southern Utah 3-0 Santa Clara over Villanova 3-1 OSU over Fresno State 3-1 San Francisco over Portland State 3-0
Wyoming over WSU 3-2 Arkansas over St. Mary's 3-2 Iowa State over Pacific 3-2 Western Michigan over LMU 3-1 USC over Pepperdine 3-0
I saw part of the Pepperdine game and they looked very competitive against a sharp looking USC. I'm a bit surprised about LMU's loss. Anyone see that match?

I'm a bit surprised about LMU's loss. Anyone see that match? Western Michigan is a team that came off dominant MAC run last year and upset Auburn in the NCAA tournament. They return a few key starters while LMU had to rebuild it's roster. Not so surprising but a good challenge by them

Pacific came back from down 0-2 to Northwestern and is headed to a 5th set. Pacific Opp Gorospe went down in the 4th set with an ankle? injury...looked like she rolled it after coming down from a block onto her teammate.
Northwestern looked all kinds of awful in the fourth set (ie. a free ball dropped in the middle of the court) after giving up a 23-21 lead in the third set and allowing Pacific 4 straight points.

San Francisco went 5 against Nevada and dropped the last set 14-16. I really feel for them, having just played back-to-back 5-set matches...both losses. Those girls will have no legs tomorrow. (Fortunately they don't play again until Thursday.).
