Unfortunately, OSU lost 3-2, (10-15 fifth set, sigh. Light targeted on Serve receive again and hit negative.)

WSU's setter sets a really nice ball. A shame they aren't going to be very good this year and are losing both of their big hitters. Wonder if she looks elsewhere in future years.

WSU beat Eastern Washington 3-1. Cougs have solid middles, a libero that digs everything, a solid freshmen setter, and they are looking likely they will be in the top half of the conference if they keep this steady progression of improvement. Funny enough the Cougs OH, Sage Brustad played for Eastern WA for 3 seasons.

Funny enough the Cougs OH, Sage Brustad played for Eastern WA for 3 seasons. Cougs looked pretty good. (They hit .110 for the match, so it's hard to be too enthusiastic.) It seems like the entire WCC this year is various degrees of 'meh'. There hasn't been a team yet who has looked really impressive. (I'm reminiscing of the days with 3-4 very competitive teams.). I hope a few teams will coalesce and start to play some higher level volleyball this season. San Diego has very nice pins (Beach and Osunsanmi), but their middles this year aren't looking like typical USD middle terminators. (And they are currently down 5 points in the 5th set vs St. Johns....) Pepperdine seems like they could be playing better. Let's hope they look sharp vs Hawaii this weekend.

Yeah I watched the last couple sets of the WSU one. The hitting percentage was low because Eastern WA were digging a lot of balls it seemed, but WSU looks solid, just not always terminal. USD doesn't look that great to me this season, besides Osunsami. Just an okay team. Oregon State I thought were very promising prior to the season, lost their 3 year starting libero who left the team-reason unknown, and the backup freshman OH in a boot, so no depth when an OH is struggling, which has happened the last couple of matches, so they look to be finishing in the bottom half imo. LMU has some good pieces, but I think Pepperdine is the clear favorite to win the conference this season based on what I saw from watching their games vs. USC. They will take some losses in the noncon because they scheduled tough though.

The portal situation is very sad to me. A really good recruit, who you could build a program around, can just be gone with the snap of the fingers. I'm happy that some players decide to stay with their recruited program for other reasons - academics, or feeling like they have found their place/their people.

Meanwhile, San Diego lost in 5 to St. Johns...15-8 in the fifth set. Beach and Osunsamni were very good for USD.
