Anyone know when the Summit League will come out with their volleyball preseason poll? Haven't seen anything yet. I'll assume it will be in the next couple of days.

I agree with Omaha as favorites. The main weakness they had last year was setting, and I think they have somewhat figured that out. Lots of talent experience and size in the frontcourt.
Not sure I agree with Denver at #2. I'd probably switch them with KC.
South Dakota at #3 is fair, given the loss of HMAA Harms and a lack of experience now at Middle. I think we will be a contender again by the end of the season.
NDSU is a wildcard, and I think the high preseason ranking is due to their great 5th year OH Hinze coming back. Losing a 2x Setter of the year is a big thing, though.
I'd actually rank SDSU lower, given the huge roster turnover.
I think this could be a good season for UND, maybe move into that #6 seed spot.
St Thomas could surprise as well. They are slowly building into being fully funded with regard to scholarships, so baby steps. But the coaching is great.

Best and worst performances of week 1 in the Summit: (my opinion)
Best wins: South Dakota over Air Force 3-0 Denver ....over Weber State 3-2
Best losses: Houston (RV) .............over Omaha 3-2 Washington State (RV) over Omaha 3-2 Ill-Chicago ...................over NDSU 3-2
Worst losses: Alabama A&M over Oral Roberts 3-0 Bradley ..........over St. Thomas 3-0 CS-Bakersfield over Kansas City 3-0
Arguably those two close losses with Omaha are more impressive than South Dakota's or Denver's wins, but overall I think it validates the pre-season ranking of those three teams at the top of the conference. I was also looking at how good opponents are based on Massey's rankings.... which, at this point in the year, are suspect. Mainly based on last year's data. But I had to base it on something.
Statistics-wise I have to assume that South Dakota will get a POW accolade, either for OH Sealock or S Van Hook, or a defensive one for MB Nelson?

Statistics-wise I have to assume that South Dakota will get a POW accolade, either for OH Sealock or S Van Hook, or a defensive one for MB Nelson? I guess I was wrong... ARTICLE LINKOFFENSIVE PEAK PERFORMER OF THE WEEK Sylvie Zgonc, South Dakota State

Sealock does still deserve a shout-out IMO.
She is 34-7-65 hitting .415 through two matches. With 5.67 kills per set.

Sealock does still deserve a shout-out IMO. She is 34-7-65 hitting .415 through two matches. With 5.67 kills per set. Oh yeah, I agree. Sealock looks great. Better than last year, which is saying something! Sealock currently leads the conference in kills-per-set, points-per-set and is 3rd in hitting %. One of her biggest issues from last year was her passing errors, so I'm hopeful that is cleaned up too. Looks like she only had one RE in six sets, compared with five RE in six sets from freshman OH Medeck. Experience matters for limiting errors, I think. SDSU played three sub-200 RPI teams and racked-up some stats, but it's hard to overlook Sylvie's two double-doubles. I think the voters sometimes just look at the basic stats without seeing who the stats were against. For that matter, I'm sure Omaha's and Ruch/ McCormick's stats would have been better had they been playing bad teams. That's just the way it is with weekly awards, I guess. It will even out in conference play. Another stat that stands out with USD was how efficient ALL of our hitters were. I think that has a lot to do with our setter, Soph Avery Van Hook. In a recent interview, coach Williamson mentioned that she has seen a ton of improvement in her strategies, and ability to put her hitters in good positions. I was hoping that would be the case in year II of the AVH era. Right now USD has 4 of the top-10 in the conference in hitting% #1 MB Morgan Bode .448 #3 OH Kylen Sealock .415 #5 MB Audrey Nelson .412 #8 OH Cheyanne Hlady .344 I just don't want to see AVH getting injured again, like last year. (shoulder when diving to floor... two separate occasions) I've got a little PTSD about Coyotes landing awkwardly (Elizabeth Juhnke career-ending knee injury)..

Last year, Omaha's two Middle Blockers were 6'5 freshman Huss and Ruch. In Omaha's match vs Washington State last Sunday, neither played at the MB spot. Huss, because of an ongoing shoulder injury and Ruch because she was switched back to Outside Hitter for the entire match, a position that she played as a freshman a few years ago. Incidentally, Omaha started another 6'5" freshman at MB. Ruch played outside in place of McCormick.
