My prediction in Tiers. The tiers are not in any specific order, just where I think each team will end up based on 3 tiers.

I know theyre still probably going to finish last (although I wouldn’t be shocked if not) but tell me I didn’t eat this prediction in the offseason syracuse should be better next season... granted it would be almost impossible to do worse annie nikolnikova should be a good addition in the middle from the college of southern idaho skylar george played outside for Skyline and was recruited to utah so im assuming she'll be good for them. klara zarnovicka transferred in last year but was hurt this past season. she was pretty good at FAU her freshman year before a slight sophomore slump. both their middles and setters from the end of the year return, and their leading scorer from the first half of the season before she got hurt. schlichter was a freshman DS that had to play at OH last season due to injuries but she passed over a 2 i'd be shocked if they won less than 2 games this season lol.

You nailed it. Finish last? They are currently the best team in the ACC. Just look at their record. And they've played 12 matches. Those slackers in Pittsburgh could only manage nine. Sure, you may want to counter with "but they scheduled 6 matches against the Ivy Rec League and 6 against the University of Phoenix Continuing Education Program". However that would be selling them short. A wise gum-mangling coach once said "you are what your record says you are". Syracuse's record says they're the #1 team in the ACC. Even with the 0-0 conference record.

What a massive win for Syracuse over Iowa State. You might say so what ISU is mediocre. But Syracuse had one of the worst seasons in Power 5 history last year and this year they played the softest non conference schedule in ACC history. A win over another real live Power Conference team show that this Syracuse team is back from the doldrums. They might not even in the top half of the ACC but they are no longer a laughing stock. Kudos are always due for massive improvement Now that the ACC season is beginning let's give them a few weeks of ACC play and see how they hold up. UNC and Duke the first weekend but then they have Pitt and SMU followed by Stanford and Cal. Maybe they win 1 out of those 6 opening matches (Duke). After that they return to their norm. Maybe give Syracuse a little more credit? Iowa State was picked to finish 6th (out of 15) in a very strong Big 12, and returns their top 3 hitters and starting setter from a team that made the tourney last year. Huge win for SU no matter how you slice it. Maybe the most improved team in the country. But yes let's see how they do going forward in ACC play. If they play like they did against ISU 2 or 3 wins in the first 6 ACC matches isn't out of the question.

It's really great for their program.

Is anyone interested in a match thread for Boston College vs. Duke on Friday? What teams would ppl like to see match threads for? exit assigns match threads when both teams are in the top 25 (or usually if they're receiving votes) in the AVCA poll so those are covered. I usually make match threads for Cal and Stanford and eazy makes them for Louisville.

I say make it, and see if anyone even comments in the thread during the game, and if they don't, then unlikely need to do one for future games, right.

Don't know how many Duke games I'll watch live this season but BC & Duke are an interesting matchup with both teams trying to figure out who they are without their departed seniors. In regards to other ACC games this week, I think SMU vs Clemson. Clemson looks to be getting better every year and Mia McGarth has really stepped up her game this season. If her + freshman Neea Maria Joki play well, I think they can give SMU problems.

As a side note it is interesting that SMU is Pitt's travel partner. That should make for a pretty tough weekend for most players. The SMU match will only be treated on ACCN+ or ESPN+ on Friday however Pitt will be on the regular ACC Network on Sunday I believe. It looks like Tech will have to play in the 5-1 instead of their preferred 6-2 configuration as their 2nd setter Soares looks to be out for a while after injuring her hand against Florida. Word is that she had surgery on that hand and might be out for awhile. Not sure if Tech feels comfortable enough with their #3 setter to continue the 6-2 without Soares. In any case we should be able to get a better gauge on Tech after this weekend. Can they be the first team to take a set from Pitt this year? I believe they have gone to 5 sets with them each of the past two years.

Pitt reverse swept GT at home last year. Pitt swept GT in Atlanta last year. Pitt has also never lost a match against GT in Atlanta.
The one good thing about Pitt and SMU being travel partner's is there is like 5-6 direct flights to and from Pittsburgh and Dallas each day between to DFW and Love Field. So if you are flying commercial, it's not bad.
