Cue the Midwest teams complaining about how this format “screws” them out of advancing to gold bracket (when they were destined to be day 3 knockouts anyway)
Seeds look good

Ok am I reading this right that Tread Rosenthal is listed as a player for Outrigger? Was he enrolled in HS at some point during the past academic year? I thought he was at Hawaii the entire year. Or was he just there starting in Jan?

I wonder if C2 is on the phone with Caleb Blanchette. Would be embarrassing for his former teammates to see he’s gotten worse

Cue the Midwest teams complaining about how this format “screws” them out of advancing to gold bracket (when they were destined to be day 3 knockouts anyway) Seeds look good Format is never the issue. Large pools require more accurate seeding. The age groups in this division seem to have on point top seeds and probably 2nd seeds. The issue becomes the 3-5 seeds. So now they removed less pools to make them larger and less teams advance out of those pools. Remember how in 16 open the favorite to run away with it was MB Surf and lost in one of those crossover matches to Sting because they lost to a Puerto Rican team day 3? Or Excel from Texas, a 5 seed finished 2nd in their pool of 6? For instance, this year Cinci Attack 16-1s is a 5 seed in their pool, finished 16th in 15 Open last year and besides Chi-Town has been a top 5 team every tournament, and just beat Louisville Fury who is a 2 seed in this event. So if the seeding committee is going to seed off of an event that was done in November for an event in July, that might cause issues. It doesn’t impact what will be inevitable, west coast championship with the potential of 15 Open having a Midwest champion (defending champ and runner up are from MW) and shake ups in 17 open. Just hard to justify your finish of the tournament is based on only one pool of play.

Ok am I reading this right that Tread Rosenthal is listed as a player for Outrigger? Straight from the AAU BOYS VOLLEYBALL 2023-2024 AGE DEFINITIONS: Once a player participates (including but not limited to practicing, training, attending workouts and/or competing) in a club or varsity program for any university, college, community college, or junior college, he is ineligible to compete.

Kind of a weird typo considering the amount of layers that have to occur for him to be listed (AAU player membership instead of coach, added to the roster on AES by staff, all info filled out, etc). Also, since when are college coaches allowed to coach 18s? Charlie Wade listed as the HC of that team.

He has been on the bench and coaches for the club this year. Charlie has used players in the past the same way, I think it is a good recruiting tool. College coaches have been coaching 17s and 18s and probably other ages for a while, I am not up to date on the exact NCAA rules but they have been. Pinnacle - 18s literally has the assistant of CSuLB in the team's name. Rockstar has have UCLA coaches before. Balboa 18 is a listed volunteer CSuLB coach... I can think of several more of the top of my head and there are probably many more I am not aware of.

You’ve seen it on the girls side before. They just aren’t allowed to coach within quiet periods; which I don’t think the boys have quiet periods in the winter/spring. Charlie has coached that team for a few years now he was their coach when they were 16s.

Charlie has coached that team for a few years now he was their coach when they were 16s. Yep Charlie has coached Outrigger due to Kainoa I'm sure. Not certain if he'll continue after he's at UH. Shawn Olmstead will also coach an 18s team next season but I am not aware of any other headcoaches currently on the boys side and you're correct, it's 50 miles. And these large pools are really interesting, I swear I got an email during the last year or read online somewhere that the large pools are to combat the bad first day syndrome where you can be screwed after one bad day and end up in the lower half and no chance of gold bracket after that. The seeding committee was mentioned above, is that how it's done now? Do the club directors have to load game results somewhere or how does it work when lot of the west coast with big meaningful tournaments are in Sportwrench and the AES/USAV rankings are totally useless and there are few other regional systems too like tm2sign.com or vbschedule.com. It would be nice to get a uniform club team RPI ranking or something. Any chance of that happening?
