For our American posters, here are the current odds in a more familiar format from an aggregator: Italy +310 Turkey +430 Brazil +500 USA +640 Serbia +700 China +800 Japan +1000 Poland +1000 Netherlands +5000 D. Republic +6600 France +40000 Kenya +70000 I listed the odds that are most favorable to the bettor for the three sportsbooks listed (DraftKings, FanDuel, Bet365). For example, Team USA is listed at +500 at DraftKings, +600 at Bet365 and +640 at FanDuel. All things being equal, you'd want to make the bet at FanDuel because a successful $100 bet would pay out $640 there instead of either $600 or $500 at the other two sportsbooks. I work for a company that deals with a lot of online gambling.

These clearly donβt factor in the players that were played at VNL (see.,e.g., Serbia). I would think full strength Serbia is equivalent to Italy or close to it.

I work for a company the deals with a lot of online gambling. How much is this influenced by market access? I don't imagine Draftkings or sportsbooks in general have the same market penetration in the DR, China, Kenya or Turkey that they do in the US for instance. Might our actual chances be more comparable to China or Japan, but they don't have to give us full value odds to get Americans to bet on USA?

You could get seriously rich if you bet a lot of money on Kenya and they won. Or, of course, seriously poor if you did the same but they lost.

Might our actual chances be more comparable to China or Japan, but they don't have to give us full value odds to get Americans to bet on USA? There are a lot of factors that go into where the sportsbooks put the odds. They're trying to put the odds where they think they will attract bets, and the odds will shift as money comes on in teams. Often, a "public team" (e.g. Lakers, Cowboys, even individuals like Tiger Woods) will have shorter odds because they have huge fanbases, and so many casual bettors will put money on them just because. With US sportsbooks, that might suggest exactly what you're saying--that our chances might actually be worse, but we're getting shorter odds because of casual American bettors. Then again, I'm not sure how much casual bettors pay attention to or make bets on volleyball anyway, so they might not be that big of a factor. Anyway, the odds aren't necessarily true odds for winning the tournament. As I said, they're numbers that are designed to attract bets while making the sportsbook money.

You could get seriously rich if you bet a lot of money on Kenya and they won. Or, of course, seriously poor if you did the same but they lost. The thing is, with a team like Kenya, you could get rich even with a relatively small bet. They're +70000, which means that a $1000 bet would pay $700,000. Now, the chances of them actually winning are highly remote, so you'd almost certainly just be giving $1000 to the sportsbook.
