Too much political correctness by spreading the awards around too much. The best performers regardless of the school and if that means all at one school so be it.

We personally do not know if voters are solely basing their votes on numbers, or taking in account of the opponent or record from the previous week. Based on the last two weeks, we saw Amaris Smith (CSUN) win Offensive POW after she edged out Caylen Alexander (UH) in points & kills per set despite her team going 1-2 and Hawaii going 2-0. This week Emme Bullis received Setter of the Week despite going 1-2. Listed below are some of the nominees for this weeks setter of the week (excluding 6-2 setters). I left out results and records of the teams to show what voters would be looking at if it was solely based on numbers.
| Assists Per Set | Team Hitting % | Digs Per Set | Kills Per Set | Aces Per Set | Blocks Per Set | Player 1 | 9.69 | .229 | 2.38 | 2.30 | 0.07 | 0.46 | Player 2 | 7.88 | .183 | 1.88 | 0.88 | 0.22 | 0.77 | Player 3 | 9.90 | .208 | 2.60 | 0.10 | 0.20 | 0.30 | Player 4 | 11.11 | .205 | 3.22 | 0.44 | 0.00 | 0.22 | Player 5 | 10.75 | .193 | 2.50 | 0.37 | 0.25 | 0.87 |
After looking at these numbers, the record for these player's teams: 1 team went 2-0, 1 team went 2-1, 2 teams went 1-1, 1 team went 1-2.

After looking at these numbers, the record for these player's teams: 1 team went 2-0, 1 team went 2-1, 2 teams went 1-1, 1 team went 1-2. these are weekly awards, so it's not all that big a deal, one stat they don't use with setters is their own teams receiving %, granted even receiving % might overstate the affect of aces, still overall it's a metric on how good of passing the setter is having to deal with. Team receiving % thru Sunday: Hawaii: 0.931 and if one were to throw out those horrendous 1st sets, I bet Hawaii's passing is pretty impressive Beach: 0.911 outright horrific, granted they had to play Oregon and #1 Pitt Poly: 0.917 it magnifies the loss of Markovska, Poly maybe needs better OOS hitters with their passing last two years. Stockham kind of makes up for her own shanks with her ability to get kills UCSD: 0.898 wow, and they are winning, but that is versus a very crappy schedule so far, UCSD's record is very mirage-ish UCSB: 0.898 ...ouch! even a 6-2 can't fix passing that bad Davis: 0.935 and they played PUrdue & K-State suffice to say Davis passing like that will translate to wins Hawaii is gonna win the conference, and by a large margin, if these other teams can't figure out clean first touches......and soon

The Gauchos have put themselves on the court with a lot of good teams and most of their non-conference matches have been/will be on the road. I think this is going to make them a problem for the Big West when the regular season starts.

I think this is going to make them a problem for the Big West when the regular season starts. Unlike last year though, they haven't won any of them (so far). Missed opportunity with the losses to San Diego and Georgia.

UCSB has been sticking with the 6-2 and don't think it's served them as well as it has in the past. Passing isn't quite there, and this UCSB squad is more giraffe than gazelle. They've got some size though and good arms. They might get there eventually with a 6-2, but they also might be having better success now if they ran a 5-1.
