A note about LB, they will have the freshman of the year in Madi Maxwell. I saw her play at Fullerton's spring match. She was the best player on the court. She is very good. I was thinking the same thing but did not want to jinx her or the team by saying it first . She is LBSU's future setter but is really a very good all around volleyball player. I would like to buy NIL gear and support my favorite players but sadly UCI doesn't have a NIL store. UC Davis does have a NIL store so here's an example below of what women's volleyball fan gear looks like.

I see this league getting stronger after the mass exodus of the PAC. Even not being P4. Many talented players will choose to stay close to home. Not gonna happen. All you need to know is the difference in stipend money and NIL. there's the Dartmouth case. now Ivy League does not provide athletic scholarships....wink, wink at some point the Big West or all other conferences have to decide between belonging to the NCAA is worthwhile anymore. 5 more years of championship teams that get disbanded every year as players jump ship is something I'm not sure fans/boosters can tolerate indefinitely. It's also tough to not belong to D1 because they all want to be D1, but D1 is ....over!. the NCAA will be what the P4 (or whatever they morph into over the next 10 years we are not close to being 'done' with what that profressional organization monstrosity will be) demands they be. At some point the other 250 -300 or so colleges need to assess if it's time to just get the heck out of there. There isn't a single one of the non P4 that wants to have their athletes classified as employees, and if forced to, will probably downscale or just drop out of competitive sports as we know it. Might be a relatively easy decision for Big West schools. For those in a conference like the Mountain West, where they have 40-50000 person football stadiums and are more P4 -like without a $40-50 mil/year TV contract, who knows, they will really be in purgatory It might be the demise of college MVB as we know it in 5-10 years, aside from some 6 team P4/D1 league of BYU, UCLA, Stan, OSU, PSU, USC who can go F themselves and play each other 5 times each year and call whoever they want a national champion. but I digress. If I was the commish of hte Big West, I'd call the Ivy League, the Missouri Valley Conference, maybe a couple others like conferences and say. "screw this, let's form a new organization of 80 schools, and stop the BS". or maybe not, probably continue to suffer a slow miserable decline as peons of the P4

SB did just that last year Hawaii still won the auto bid and the conference tournament. Not knocking the other Big West teams at all. SB has been getting the best of Hawaii for what seems like 5+ years in a row now and the Beach continues to get better along with Cal Poly. But Hawaii has been on or near the top when it's mattered every season. I expect more of the same. hawaii fortunately (and at the risk of bachi'ing it ... if that's a word) ... has always found a way, to either win the bw title (and the auto-bid) or get an at-large. they're the only bw team to consistently get into the tournament, even when not winning the auto-bid. so i agree - entirely fair (whether you're a fan or not) to think hawaii can finish at or near the top of conference. i get that the poll is who wins the 'title' ... but i mean (as beachbythebay likes to point out), fans will be fans. but thinking hawaii can somehow win the title again is not unreasonable ...

can someone explain, with some detail, why Hawaii would appear to be the prohibitive favorite to win the Big West? that the 'poll' infers or is this just because the # of posters and voters are 80% Hawaii fans keep crying BitchbytheBay

Just go out there and battle. Play hard and see where it ends. No one knows the outcome.

I think we all can agree that this should be an exciting year with plenty of teams thinking they can make a run at either the regular or tournament title. I also agree that there are two or three teams that are a bit better than the rest but I would not be surprised to see UCI peak at the right time and get the auto at their place. Fun times ahead for sure.

Now is the time the over 240 D1 women VB teams start creating some rules for the NCAA to follow in order to keep the playing field level. A couple I would insist on,... 1) Players transferring after their first year with a school must sit out one year (old rule reinitiated) 2) 11.5 full scholarship limit (not to change) It certainly appears the P4 or P5 schools want to use the power of the purse to gain an advantage in women's VB.

Here are results from Saturday exhibitions. I listed the starters from the beginning of the match. A majority of the teams switched up their line-up after the first set so some of these might change by opening day. Also the opponents switched up their line-ups as well so don't always take the scores too seriously.

Cal State LA the defending D2 national champs were picked to finish 1st in the pre-season CCAA poll while D2 powerhouse Cal Poly Pamona which had finished in the top 3 of the CCAA three years in a row is picked to finish 2nd.

Outstanding job. It was informative, balanced, and in-depth. The coaches' interviews gave us a more personal look at them. It's good to see them as people with individual personalities instead of just their in-game persona. Rob and company did a great job. I feel like the Big West is stepping up its conference game.
