I'll wait til after the first tournament is done to make a prediction. If we can get some production out of the middle, that will help a lot. Also passing is suspect at the moment, we'll see how they pass against SD and SMU.

I haven't had the time to create a full description of teams but here are my random thoughts I've had going into this season.
I am very excited to see what UC Riverside can do. Trinity Sheridan is a heavy hitter that UCR has not had in a LOOOONG time and is only a sophomore eligibility wise. They also added two other pins in Kailyn Jager and Mia Delahoussaye who are a junior and sophomore respectively so they have time to build around this trio. I don't think they're going to win the conference but they will fight for that final spot BWC tournament spot IMO. I can't wait to see what they do in the non-conference whether win/lose.
Cal Poly has the shot to do great things in the Big West and non-conference. They return a lot of talent (plus add more) and scheduled well enough to compete and help them out RPI wise. Win or lose the conference, with what they bring, they have a shot at an at-large if they can't win the tournament. I'm anxiously waiting for Beshear's debut. I can't say whether she'd start but Walters has said she has the short athleticism of Markovska but the arm of Stockham. She will be the face of the Big West for a while. Murdoch is out and won't be available until conference season so that's one less pin to work with but they have a lot of talent on that roster.
UC San Diego can be a wildcard. The first two weekends they have their shot to win, the following two weekends will be tougher. Following along their exhibition against SDSU, looks like they are still trying to find their line-up. Pries sat out so I don't know how long they are out. But they played a bunch of different line-ups and are still trying to find their setter(s). McInnes is always a fun player to watch. McDaniel is another and I pray she can stay healthy, she is one of the best blockers in the conference and is good option offensively.
Davis scheduled really tough. We'll see what kind of team they are. They started off 2023 hot with wins over Arizona and North Carolina but became a hot and cold type of team. They return a good trio of pins, but it's a matter if they can stay hot at the same time. It's Utterback's final year, and I hope she gets to kill it this season. Fun all-around player to watch.
UCSB is going to be very young and they also scheduled very tough. Their schedule is better well-suited for last year's roster but it'll be a big test this year. They will continue to go with a 6-2, they are recruiting specifically for it and their 21 player roster with 5 setters on it proves that. They will continue to run a fast offense if possible, their left side hitters are going to be 5'10" or shorter but they are gamers. I'm excited to see Triplett play for them, she reminds me of Beshears but a little less of that heavy arm.
I have high hopes for Long Beach but we'll see. Definetely still a contender but I wasn't sold from their exhibition. I can see them challenging Oregon this week so that'll be a fun one to watch. They like Davis also had a bit of a hot or cold season but they went through injuries. Not having Agi is a bummer for them but Maxwell is going to be a nice addition in her place. I had always wondered if she was going to play behind Meyer and set but looks like she'll be a nice touch on the left side.

When I was trying to find the preview above I stumbled across a Fullerton Titans Fall Sports Preview below which included an interview with the volleyball coach. Hey SmokeDogg this is for you but you have to be an ESPN+ member.

I haven't had the time to create a full description of teams but here are my random thoughts I've had going into this season. Very early, but, pulling up stats Bakersfield being up 20-12 on UMKC in set 1 seems like a shocker to me so far.

They've went back to a 6-2 and looks like it's working so far. Hopefully this continues!

Bake has a foreign coach. Has got a lot of seemingly no name xfers, aa number of foreign players, nd also has a number of local Bakersfield players on the roster.
She's proven she can coach the team to some upsets, she's lost some players to the portal. One all frosh team to Cal Poly.
Could be a surprise team this year.

I think it's pretty cool the last non-conf weekend. Fresno has a tournament with all Valley teams. Fresno, Sac State, UOP, & Bakersield.
every major city in the Valley. Sacramento, Stockton, Fresno, Bakersfield

They were very inexperienced in the middle, losing some to graduation/portal. Bhakta played mainly on the right side in her career and now moved to the middle and they added two undersized freshmen. Working well for them at the moment.

CSU Bakersfield sweeps Kansas City for the first Big West win of the season!
25-20, 25-14, 25-21
They ran a 6-2, at some points using 3 setters. Their hitting percentage went down a bit but ended at .267 for the game.
Bhakta had 8 kills (.667) with no errors, 5 aces and 4 blocks. Transfer libero Georgiadis was one dig short of a double-double, 9 digs & 11 assists.

After Bake vs UMKC next on the Big West schedule is UCI vs North Dakota.
Hey trojansc how do you think USC grad transfer Katie Smith will do at UCI?
Do you think Smith will play more as an OH or MB?
If she plays OH can she attack from the back row?
