Illinois wins MIVA's with win over Lakeland in the final. I guess both matches were pretty close with Illinois winning 26-24 the first set, but not sure of the score of the second. Illinois beat Marquette in the quarters and Oshkosh in the semis to reach the finals. Lakeland beat Michigan st in the semis and Iowa in the quarters.

yeah but I think they change up who the #1 seed is in the whole tournament by division, so last year South #1 was the overall #1 seed, I think this year the overall #1 is Central #1...and then North #1 is overall #2 and South #1 is overall #3....I could be wrong, but I think they are doing that in hopes of making sure each division gets a shot to be overall #1....granted, I don't see any team from the North winning EIVAs this year...(or any year for that matter)

Although the EIVA pools have not been set up the teams going are as follows:
South: 1. Va Tech 2. JMU 3. Virginia 4. Duke
Central: 1. Penn State 2. Navy 3. Delaware 4. Maryland
North: 1. SUNY-Buffalo 2. SUNY-Cortland 3. Syracuse 4. Army
*Note, Cornell actually finished 2nd in the North, but elected not to attend the EIVA championships, thus Cortland and Syracuse moved up in seeding and Army, who actually finished 5th in the North, moved up to grab the #4 slot...

U of I beat Lakeland for the MIVA championship this past weekend. In fact, they beat the top three in the WVC. Beat Marquette in the quarters, Oshkosh in the semi's, and Lakeland in the finals. Think the score in the finals was 28-26, 27-25.

It was a great match to watch with outstanding defense by both sides. Illinois blocking and Lakelands libero helped set the tone of the games. Each game could have went either way. There were a couple questionable calls but each team had their share of offensive mistakes as well. I look forward to watching these two teams and many other worthy teams compete for a National Title.
