Keefe still layed out on the floor, trainers putting a brace on her left knee Sealy on air now saying that it could be something with her knee, but can't elaborate due to the school's idiot policy about injuries. It's not just Hawaii, it's all schools. I don't know if it is actually an NCAA regulation or not, but I don't know of any D 1 University that doesn't have this policy for every sport.

it's a weird feeling to be reading the thread thinking that you're only here for scores and the play-by-play... and then to read about what might end up being a serious injury to a player. it seems a little surreal.
all the best to Keefe...

Keefe is a big loss for Hawaii. I wonder if Shoji would ever consider unredshirting Arnott?
Anyway, Kaufman and Thurlby are both formiddable RS reserves. Personally I would like to see Kaufman start because of her leaping ability. When she gets a good set from KK she can put it down. I think this is what Hawaii's going to need on offense. They need to put balls away.
So here we are... in 48 hrs. NMSU. This is the match of the year so far for the Wahine. Possibly the WAC title could be on the line.
Serving and Passing will probably be the most critical aspect of the game for the Wahine because both teams seem to be equally balanced.
Let's hope Kaufman can pick up some of the slack missed from blocking. Allen and Borden are two very good attackers, and need to be slowed down at the least.
KK needs to really pick up in connecting with all hittters.
Does anyone know if there will be altitude in Las Cruces?

Costly victory for Wahine volleyballAdvertiser Staff A match that should have been a celebration of extended excellence and perseverance over the travel elements turned bad for Hawai'i last night when sophomore Jessica Keefe buried the final point of the Rainbow Wahine's volleyball sweep over Louisiana Tech and fell, injured, to the floor. Keefe, who starts on the right side for 11th-ranked Hawai'i, has had two surgeries on her right knee in the past three years. She was clutching her left knee last night in Ruston, La., following UH's 30-25, 30-20, 30-14 victory. UH officials are no longer allowed to give out information on athletes' injuries except to say if they are cleared to play. Coach Dave Shoji said Keefe is "doubtful" for tomorrow's Western Athletic Conference match at 25th-ranked New Mexico State, and is making contingency plans for the rest of the season. Last night UH was trying to fly in walk-on Caroline Blood for the NMSU match. Freshman Amber Kaufman will start on the right, Shoji said, with backup setter Cayley Thurlby also in the mix. The 'Bows lost starters Tara Hittle and Nickie Thomas to season-ending injuries earlier. If Keefe is seriously hurt, the 2004 recruiting class would all be out. The 'Bows won before a record LaTech volleyball crowd of 736 at Thomas Assembly Center. The first 82 minutes of the WAC match had been good — not great — for a UH team that arrived in Ruston some 6 hours before first serve, after traveling 12 hours. The late arrival was necessary because of several schedule changes the past few months. Hawai'i (13-4, 7-0 WAC) understandably staggered early against the Techsters (6-17), winless in six conference matches. The Rainbow Wahine took their first lead at 8-7 and ultimately pulled to a 28-19 advantage before a letdown forced Shoji to call time at 28-22. Jamie Houston (19 kills) and Sarah Mason (11), who matched the Techsters' team kill total, finally put down the final two as the 'Bows won despite hitting just .029 (14 kills, 13 errors). Game 2 was similar, with Shoji calling time after a 4-0 LaTech run, with UH ahead 14-11. The Rainbows came back quickly and ended up hitting .333 in the second and .429 in the third. In contrast, the Techsters hit .000 for the match and were stuffed 14 times — seven by Kari Gregory. Shannon Phillips, LaTech's major offensive threat at an average of four kills a game, had four kills all night, with six errors. The final kill was only Keefe's second. Shoji said he saw nothing leading up to her fall. "It was strange because it was just a normal play," he said. "She went up and hit it and put it down. No one was near her, she wasn't in an awkward position. She just, obviously, came down wrong." Hawai'i, playing its fourth match in six nights, won its 132nd straight WAC match and eighth overall. It has swept all seven conference opponents this year. UH takes a break from conference after tomorrow. It plays Notre Dame Monday and Tuesday at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Monday match begins at 7 p.m., but the Tuesday match has been moved up to 6 p.m. to accommodate a change in Notre Dame's travel schedule. www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061012/SPORTS0203/610120416/1032

[/qu totally agree on kaufman...hawaii is pretty much lacking in offensive output on the rightside...kaufman provides more offensive potential Here we go again with the 'lacking in offensive output on the rightside'. When your offense is designed in such a way that the rightside sees a limited amount of sets, you're going to get less offensive output. It's not the players, it's the system. Every right side player at Hawaii has taken a knock for this reason with the possible exception of Willoughby and Wilton. Actually, even back then we wished that they would've set the right side more often. It's not just that Mason is more comfortable on the left that has caused her kpg to go up. It's because she is no longer on the right, where the sets are limited ...

I was talking with another volleyball addict about Keefe's injury and the topic of "Do you think the travel schedule had anything to do with it?" came up. The more I think about it, the more I wonder. This team traveled for...what, 12 hours...before the match. They had 6 hours on the ground, so to speak before playing. IF they slept, they probably didn't sleep very well - I've always had trouble sleeping on planes.
I know that there are NCAA restrictions on how early a team can arrive in their opponents town...what those are I don't really know. Did Hawaii have problems booking earlier flights or were these restrictions the problem? IF it's the NCAA, then perhaps they need to change the rules to allow teams traveling from a longer distance to arrive earlier.
I was saddened to read that she'd been injuried and I hope that everything turns out ok for her. I hope the team is able to rest up while they're here in town.

there was an article saying that they had problems booking flights after their match on monday against boise state so they had to leave on tuesday. sounded like even though they would have liked to leave earlier they couldn't...

So Shoji is trying to fly Blood to join them for the NMSU match. It would have not been necessary had he brought her in the first place. I'm so frustrated with Shoji. I hope Keefe recovers soon. The team needs her.

Keefe is a big loss for Hawaii. I wonder if Shoji would ever consider unredshirting Arnott? Yep, huge loss. No, doubtful to unredshirt another. The WAC streak, yes, the title is decided in November in Reno. Um. What? Is this an option? If that's the case then no!

I hope Keefe isn't hurt too badly. Is this the time for Hawaii's first WAC loss in a long time? My guess is.......no. They don't get too many big time matches this time of year, and I am guessing they will be up for this one and get the win. I know NMSU is good, but there still could be a little of the "can we really beat them" feeling in the back of their minds.
