Anyways, I see Minna Sugimoto in 808's clip. Yup, she's at a lot of volleyball and basketball games. I assume that's her daughter with her. I think there was one play that night that her daughter almost got an Arizona player in her lap.

very cool vid, 808. i sat up close the night of the game too. and sitting that close you can really appreciate how high players like Dosty and Houston get. Not quite the days of Klum where the crowd was practically out on the court with the players, but nevertheless, it was cool that "students" could get the seats right up close where the action was ... and for student prices too. sat right behind the AZ bench during G3. Hackbar (that's the dude's name right?) was sitting right there too, and when he starting doing his wild spastic dancing during a timeout, a couple of the AZ players had to stifle their laughter. One player (Goodenough, I believe) had to put a towel over her face to keep from losing it in the AZ huddle....

Glad you were able to take advantage of the opportunity to get down close to the action. I know some people like IB like to sit up higher and behind the endlines, but I've gotten used to my vantage point. I have some friends that sit up a little higher, though, and like their view too. You can't get a bad seat in the SSC, in my opinion. That was Alan Hackbarth of Rubber Man fame. The guy's been out of school for awhile now, but he's still got those rubber man moves. I should have tried to get it on video since his appearance at games is getting rarer and rarer. It's hilarious when the players get to see him. Even some of the Hawaii players (I remember Kanoe specifically) were watching him do his thing.

Who is that long-haired, taller backrow player? Looks like Woolford, but there's a shorter girl there wearing number 15, with her hair in a bun.

You are correct -- that was Recca, wearing Thomas' number 9, which she inherited last year when Nickie went down for the year.

Did she play an entire game or was she put in during the last couple of points?

I'm worried about the passing again this year....With all those back court players, they need to focus more and more about passing and digging....Only then will everything come together and we will see a whole different team then we would expect......

The one good thing about last year is that passing suffered so much that it forced others to step up their game. Houston did a pretty decent job as a primary passer. Assuming Hittle returns to form, she will also be a primary passer. And Lee is going to force the others to step up their game or they won't see any playing time. That is going to really shore up the passing. The biggest worry is the setting. Kamanao made bad passes look decent and decent passes look good. Without a strong setter, Hawaii's hitter will have to work hard to get their kills.

I think this is why they need to get rid of some of them. Because since there is so much each player gets less reps. If there were less of them each player will get more reps and they will be able to improve on their passing and back row play.

I agree with you, they have too many backcourt players on the roster and but the passing still suck last season. That is why my comment on this season's roster should slim down to about 3 DS so that Shoji can focus on working and perfecting those few backcourt players including in coming freshmen Liz Ka'ahiue...
