Arnott won't return to play for Rainbow Wahine Advertiser Staff Arnott the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2007/Mar/12/br/br1852693740.html Outside hitter Alicia Arnott, a starter for the University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team in 2004, will not play for the Rainbow Wahine this year, the athletic department announced today. Arnott, who would have been a fifth-year senior in 2007, redshirted in 2006 to preserve eligibility with hopes of playing a larger role on the team in 2007. A release said "she has decided not to use her final year of eligibility, which would have been the 2007 season."

I'm wondering if Amanda Simmons and Stephanie Ferrell will redshirt this coming season....? Amanda will most likely redshirt since UH will Gregory, Sanders and hopefully Thomas. Ferrell might play. Recent reports say that Hittle most likely will not be 100% come August (she's not suppose to even start jumping on her foot until June or July). Keefe's status is unknown. And nobdy seems to know if Otineru is coming or not. So Ferrell could see playing time.

I would love to see Ferrell in action that'll give her more time to adjust and get some experience but I know that she's ready. We also have Jessica Keefe 6'1 to play OH if Dave has Amber Kaufman 6'0 locked for the RS position......

I couldn't agree with you more. Ferrel will definitely see playing time as an OH.

I couldn't agree with you more. Ferrel will definitely see playing time as an OH. Will Ferrell even see any playing time? From all I know, she is a project that has potential to be a strong college player. Being athletic is one thing, but how well can she pass, serve and block? I'm just wondering ... I really have no clue on how much of an impact she'll make. If she is anything like Houston (another late addition to the recruiting class), than maybe she'll play. But until I hear more evidence ... I'll reserve my expectations. But hell, I'm excited. Seems like the Wahine are loading up high flying bombers. Imagine Houston and Ferrell on the outside. lol. Then theres Hittle and Keefe... I guess Ferrell's playing time depends on how far along Keefe and Hittle can recover. The only other outsides is Kaufman... so Ferrell may be pushed into playing. Anyway, I feel bad for Arnott. I hope she's not just gonna hang up the sneakers. She has one more year. Maybe she can transfer somewhere and play? Pacific! She seemed to have so much upside her freshman and sophomore years ... but ever since Mason and Houston came along, she's fallen down in the depth chart... sucks... it is rare that players who are on scholarship at UH will transfer or quit, especially the local girls, but although she is a solid all around player ... she just can't keep up with the other Wahine. =/ Arnott leaving also brings up another question ... will she be the only one leaving? And no, I'm not talking about the scholarship players ... but how safe are Blood, Ong, Kitaguchi, and Recca? The Wahine STILL Have 19 players, which is 1 more than Shoji likes. Who knows ... will the four have to fight with other players who are planning on walking on?

Arnott didn't red shirt last year, or decide not to play this year, because she had "fallen in the depth charts"... she's got some other things going on in her life. Her decision has little to do with volleyball actually.

I doubt Woolford, Ong, and Blood will be going anywhere. All are seniors with only one year of eligibility. Whether they see any playing time remains to be seen as Blood is last on the depth chart with respect to the middle blocker position and Woolford and Ong will need to improve if they want to beat out Lee at libero. Duggins should also be staying as she has already transferred once. But things don't look promising for Kitaguchi and Recca. They are last on the depth chart for the libero position and Shoji is bringing in Kaaihue as a libero as well.

starbulletin.com/2007/03/13/sports/story03.html5 Wahine to miss exhibition Alicia Arnott decides not to return for her final year with the Hawaii volleyball team By Cindy Luis cluis@starbulletin.com Alicia Arnott's decision not to return for her final year with the Hawaii volleyball team affects not only in the upcoming fall season but also Thursday's spring exhibition match against Arizona. Arnott, a 6-foot left-side hitter, is one of five Rainbow Wahine who will not compete against the Wildcats at the Stan Sheriff Center. Middles Juliana Sanders and Nickie Thomas, and outside hitters Tara Hittle and Jessica Keefe are also expected to miss the match. Thomas and Keefe had knee surgeries following season-ending injuries last fall. Hittle is also recuperating from a foot injury that kept her out most of last year, and Sanders has been bothered by chronic shin problems. Hawaii coach Dave Shoji also had expected to be without outside hitter Amber Kaufman, who is competing in the high jump for the Rainbow Wahine track team. However, Kaufman will play Thursday instead of traveling to the mainland for a track meet. Setter Kanoe Kamana'o and outside hitter Sarah Mason, both of whom completed their eligibility last December, are also going to play against Arizona. Shoji said Kamana'o will have limited setting duties, with redshirt freshman Dani Mafua running the offense for most of the night. As for Arnott, who led the team in kills as a sophomore in 2004, Shoji said, "We appreciate all she's done for the program in the four years she's been with us. It was her decision and we wish her all the best." Arnott could not be reached for comment. Arnott, an All-State selection out of La Pietra, redshirted last season. She was a first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection and an AVCA West Region honorable mention her sophomore year, but saw limited action as a junior in 2005.

Hey IdahoChild, what are those coaches doing to your players? Beatin the snot out of them? Pretty soon you will be looking as bad as Long Beach State............................................................so much for attacking the LBS injury situation, as the UH situation is worse than anything that we have experienced in the past 5 years!!

Well, that explains why Hawaii was contemplating their spring schedule. So, it looks like Mason and Houston on the outside, Gregory in the middle, and probably some combination of Kaufman and Blood in the middle and right. We may also see Mafua getting some swings from the right side with Kamanao setting. But this is a very distorted line up. Only 4 of these players could potentially see action next year, as Mason and Kamanao have used their eligibility and Blood probably won’t see any significant playing time. We can only hope that all these injuries heal up by next season.

Pretty soon you will be looking as bad as Long Beach State............................................................so much for attacking the LBS injury situation, as the UH situation is worse than anything that we have experienced in the past 5 years!! *Yawn* Most of the players are fairly healthy now. They are just preventatively not competing after coming off of some injuries. As far as looking as bad as Long Beach State... well, does that mean you are admitting Long Beach is looking pretty bad? The off-season is for getting healthy, honing skills, and staying in shape. Fortunately for Hawaii, the recovering girls that won't be playing against Arizona already have the skills and are doing the rest. At least Hawaii gives their players a chance to heal up instead of forcing them out...
