Back to Alicia... We'll miss seeing you on the court, Alicia. You were a pivotal part of the huge success that Hawaii had in 2004, undefeated regular season, #1 ranking, you led the team in kills, were a clutch player and always gave your best every night. That should not be forgotten to true Hawaii fans. Best wishes to you and don't forget to say hi once in a while.

I am glad some programs view the spring that way. It is a season where the athlete can learn to love volleyball again; stay in shape, hone skills, recover, and remember that it is a truly wonderfully fun thing to be doing.
The too serious, bad a$$ coaching style in this season only hurts a program

Most of the players are fairly healthy now. They are just preventatively not competing after coming off of some injuries.

I would love to see Ferrell in action that'll give her more time to adjust and get some experience but I know that she's ready. We also have Jessica Keefe 6'1 to play OH if Dave has Amber Kaufman 6'0 locked for the RS position...... Does anyone else think that Jessica Keefe is a little over-rated? I think she had some moments of 'good play' last season, but I didn't see the power or confidence that I would expect from a starting outside. I could see Otineru, Kaufman, and Ferrell (if they're all here next season) in front of her on the depth chart. The kid has a great attitude, and I hope she improves on her skills, but I don't think I'm seeing what everyone else is seeing.

Hey IdahoChild, what are those coaches doing to your players? Beatin the snot out of them? Pretty soon you will be looking as bad as Long Beach State............................................................so much for attacking the LBS injury situation, as the UH situation is worse than anything that we have experienced in the past 5 years!! Yet, with all Hawaii's injuries, they STILL make the Regional Final. And where was LBSU with all of its "healthy" players this year? I'll tell you where they were .... WATCHING the regionals on TV.

She has yet to prove herself, but she can't help it if she's injured half the time.

Last year, she was behind Mason, Houston, and Hittle as an outside hitter. From what I can see, she was just about last on the OH depth chart. Arnott red-shirted and Kaufman was planning a redshirt. Personally, I think Keefe is a nice player. She has whip of armswing and she came up big clutch plays for the Wahine last year. She has that goofy-footed approach and a limited vertical so she doesn't have the Houston "wow" factor, but she was effective in her limited time on the court. If she didn't have that season-ending injury at Louisiana Tech, I think she would've found her stride and surprised a few people. There is a lot being said about Ferrell. Let's not be overly zealous fans and believe that someone with only 2 years in the sport (Ferrell) would be better than someone that was the Iowa Gatorade POY (Keefe) along with a few years of collegiate training. We were hearing the same type of thing when Kaufman committed. While she's a very good player and will make an impact as her Wahine career progresses, Kaufman could only displace the starters after they all succumbed to injury. Just some food for thought .... Otineru, on the other hand, has the tools and experience to break in to the starting lineup. Do we even know that she'll be a Wahine come August?

They are just preventatively not competing after coming off of some injuries. As far as looking as bad as Long Beach State... well, does that mean you are admitting Long Beach is looking pretty bad? The off-season is for getting healthy, honing skills, and staying in shape. Fortunately for Hawaii, the recovering girls that won't be playing against Arizona already have the skills and are doing the rest. At least Hawaii gives their players a chance to heal up instead of forcing them out... Yeah is that why Arnott is bailing on you guys?

Yeah is that why Arnott is bailing on you guys? I note the wink, but, no, just to clarify.

I agree with you, StaffU. I would go with experience over inexperience anytime. This Ferrell kid is going to be something, she has a lot potential from what I've been hearing. She's got major hops and hits the ball with a lot of authority. She could be a major impact player to the program, but it's still to early to tell.

well, apparently Aneli Cubi-Otineru isn't on the CSI roster, but her sister is... When CSI went on probation at the start of the season, Aneli redshirted to save a year of eligibility.

I think the lack of the 'wow' factor has a lot to do with it, because I actually thought Kaufman did better than Keefe with her hops and power. You're right about Ferrell, its too early to tell. But I'd still put Aneli, Kaufman, and even Arnott (if she was still playing) in front of her.

Why does everyone keep sayin Otineru will be on the team next year? Everyone speaks as if she's commited, but there are no official announcements or even rumors that she'll be a Wahine next year.
I mean, the Wahine already have 12 scholarship players.
