been away a while. sorry to hear that Arnott is not returning. i think we all would have liked to see her return and really compete for one of those OH spots. whether she would have gotten it or not, it would not have mattered. the whole team would have been all the better for it.
Alicia, good luck to you, and thanks for what you have given the program ...

I thought there was a recent article about Otineru where she literally said playing for the Wahine would be a dream for her. And that she looks forward to it. Did I imagine reading that article? So what would be the hold up for her? Why haven't we heard anything from Aneli.....Is it grades?...... from the article in today's honolulu advertiser, it sounds like Otineru has to finish up her degree requirements first (associate's). until then, the coaches are precluded from making public comments about the situation. and it makes sense, i'm sure she's in the midst of midterms right now ... let's wish her luck on wrapping up this degree and hope she finds her way back to Hawaii ...

Anyone who is not NCAA qualified before attending a JC must graduate from a JC before being eligible for NCAA competition. Anyone who was NCAA qualified can join an NCAA program at any time (even one term).

If I recall correctly, I thought Aneli was NCAA-qualified but not UH-qualified (or at least not qualified to Shoji's satisfaction). Yeah, that seems weird to me. I could be wrong on this point though.

Anyone who was NCAA qualified can join an NCAA program at any time (even one term). there ya go ... thanks BC, i knew we could count on you .... The reason why I know that is because a Cal football player (Aaron Rodgers) transferred after one year (might have even been one semester) at Butte Community College. The news articles at the time mentioned that he was NCAA eligible out of HS, but that his scholarship offers all went away when the coaches recruiting him left their jobs. He then decided to stay at a JC close to home, where he was spotted when Cal coach Jeff Tedford was recruiting a teammate of his. Of course there could be a University of Hawaii requirement for incoming JC transfers to meet associate degree requirements if they didn't meet their own freshmen admissions requirements. I don't know the particulars around her situation. This wouldn't be like Jen Saleamua's situation would it?

"so as i asked you in the return im to you - are you now saying arnott lied when she stated to the media that the reason why she wanted to redshirt her senior year was to get her confidence back and be much better next season?? and look now - she quit the team -- now how does that equal a 'dedicated hearty player'??" -sexy
in responce... as i have already stated, arnott red-shirting as well as not playing this year, has absolutely nothing to do with volleyball. the media needed something to put out about why she was red-shirting last year, and i guess the best they could come up with was... "she needed to get her confidence back and be better for next season." so don't believe everything you read in the paper.

So, what was the reason?
Everyone just dances around it but no one addresses it head on. If you're going to mention it, at least divulge all. Jeeeeez! Otherwise, don't mention it.

Does any of it really matter ? She's a great kid, excellent student and will graduate in May.She did everything that they asked of her and she doesn't owe us anything. I just hope that she will be part of this years senior night and I will miss her.

Just leave it alone already. It's no one's business but her own. I agree with you wholeheartedly, Wolfgang. It shouldn't have been brought up at all in the first place. So many people like to hint that they know something but then don't want to divulge. If you're not going to divulge, just keep your damn mouth shut.
