BiK - Pour us a few cool beers and sit back. This topic has become one of the better topics. Should society/goverment be enforcing moral and ethical standards? – and should the standards be the same for all? – age, race, politicians, sex, lawyers, religions.

Just so we're clear: I never said anything about a crime being committed. It's more than stupidity. There were THIRTY Duke lacrosse players at the house for a party featuring two strippers HIRED BY THE TEAM CAPTAINS. Why was it at the house? Because some of the team members had been banned from their preferred strip club.
These guys were not just morons. They were scumbags.
I will repeat: did this mean they deserved to be charged with crimes they did not commit? NO! Does this mean they are not the angels they are now being made out to be in the media? Does this mean they were still scumbags?
I'll let you be the judge.

Stupid is not a crime – it happens all the time to all of us – stupid can not be fixed. Underage drinking is a crime – it can be fixed - lower the drinking age, then it is not a crime. The words crime, legal, illegal, and stupid are often mixed together, which is rather stupid. I DO NOT approve of lowering the drinking age, nor do I approve of making stupid a crime. ATTN WOLFGANG: I hereby nominate this as VolleyTalk Post of the Week.

IMO the drinking age actually should be lowered to 18 (or the draft age raised to 21). If you are old enough to get drafted, you are old enough to drink.
FWIW though i think the penalty for drunk driving should be jacked way way up.

Alright, how about this scenario: Volleyball coach feels that his or her players should not drink alcohol at all. If found out, the coach calls for a vote by the team to expel the player and her scholarship. Is this justice ? Is the coach appropriate in executing her belief system ?
