The girls from Westwood (UCLA), go undefeated in matches, coming from a 2 game deposit, and beating the USA RED team for the second time to win the TOURNAMENT in the Finals today.

Actually, Westwood VBC lost their second match with USA Red then won the single game tiebreaker used to determine the tournament winner.

Pessque... is correct. Congrats Bruins for a great job. Jade and Jessica are an awesome defensive tandem (long term probably better than Jade and Jordan). Here are the scores of the 2nd match and tiebreaker between USA Red and Westwood VBC (UCLA).
USA Red vs. Westwood VBC, Tue 06:00PM, R9G1M#22 USA Red winner 25 18, 30 28, 22 25, 25 19
Westwood VBC vs. USA Red, Tue 07:40PM, R10G1M#23 (Tiebreaker) Westwood VBC winner 25-19
Hey michelle, thanks for the update(s) but what 2 game deficit were you referring to? UCLA only won 1 game in game9 and won the one-game tiebreaker after. Something else happened that the results link did not show?

Wait till the actual start of the 2007 Pac-10 season. Westwood would probably have to climb bigger wholes compared to the deposits they had at the USA Open!

Does anyone doubt Nebraska could have shown up and won this tournament? ;D ;D

It would have been nice to see more college teams competing against the seasoned vets, congrats to UCLA and UW, both had great showings. I wonder if Nebraskas bench could have done as well?

FWIW:
The USA teams weren't really veteran US National Team players.
A lot of the USA team players were from collegiate teams and have remaining collegiate eligibility.
In that regard teams like Westwood VBC had at least somewhat of an advantage in that many of their players have played together for at least a full season while the USA teams have been playing together for a comparatively short period of time.
Regardless of that though Westwood VBC deserves congratulations for winning the championship and being able to win at least a few 5 game matches throughout the tournament.

Which just goes to show you: poor coaching is the great equalizer.

The USA teams, Red and Blue, are the A2 Teams, head coached by Paula Weishoff and Jim Stone, respectively. There are four juniors on the Red team and seven juniors on the blue team, the rest are freshmen and sophomores. By the way, Salvo and Anderson are on the Red Team.

I just assumed that they went five because we had been told that regardless of who won the last match they were not going to do a tie-breaker. Much later found out that they had indeed lost to USA RED in the 22 match, 3-1, and then Westwood beat USA red 25-20 in the tie-breaker. Nelli Spicer got MVP, 1st team. Katlin Sather, Allison Daley, 2nd team Rachael Johnson, That is all the kids that I was told, I do not know if the USA site has posted the rest or not yet. I am sure one of you all who are good at cut and paste will be able to post who is on the teams. So congratulations to the Lady Bruins...and oh yes before I forget... to tropicalnut...So sorry for as you put it, my caustic and rude attitude, thanks for reminding me of my frequent spelling mishaps, I will try to do better in both areas.

From the pictures at the USA Volleyball site Westwood has only 7 players? This is impressive considering they played with no substitutions against what would be considered some of the best college level athletes.
Even with the departure of Meriwether, Carter and Lyman I have to believe this UCLA team will be as cohesive and competitive as last years final four team.
