The L2 position is key to UH's postseason success. Who do you feel should be given that position to accompany Jamie Houston?

The results so far are somewhat surprising considering all the recent posts criticizing Hittle's performance. What are the "Other" options that posters would want?

I chose the "Other" option, and my vote would be for Giba.

Shoji needs to start training Ferrell for that position. She needs some playing time, or alot of playin time. Does anyone know how she looks during warmups?......Hitting?....Blocking?....Can she sky?....Passing?....Serving?....Anyone?......

and what's with all this talk of Ferrell?? sure, i am anxious to see how she plays and she would bring more physicality, but how is her ball handling and shot making??? i think people are expecting a little too much from her right now without knowing her actual game.

I'm going to say what people are probably thinking. I apologize in advance if this offends the finer sensibilities of the forum's members. If what I'm going to say is NOT what people are thinking, then...ooops! Here goes:
Stephanie Ferrell is African-American. There aren't a lot of African-American volleyball players in the collegiate ranks. What litte African-American players there are, they've been (for the most part) stellar athletes with huge upsides. Yes, I'm sure there have been exceptions here and there, as always. But when we (I) think of African-American volleyball players, I think of Kim Willoughby, Kim Glass, Ogonna Nnamani (is she American or Nigerian or both?), Barbara Ifejika, Cheryl Weaver, Destinee Hooker, Alexis Crimes, Danielle Scott, Tara Cross, Teee Williams, Kee Williams, Deitre Collins, Demetria Sance, Tayyiba Haneef, Cynthia Barboza (part Ghananian (?), part White girl) and others.
Sure, White girls are just as stellar, but the percentages are lower. For every Kerri Walsh, there are two dozen or more Sara Sandriks. For every team full of stellar White girls from Nebraska, there are teams like Columbia, New Hampshire, Buffalo, Vermont, and Navy full of subpar White girls. (someone check if these latter schools have White girls)
Asian-American girls. Sure they can play, but because of their general height shortcomings, most play DS or libero, and you generally don't award super stellar status to DS's and L's. But this is neither here nor there because my post is not about Asian-American girls.
But African-American girls, at this time, seem to have a significantly high percentage of collegiate success stories. It seems like, if the girl is African-American, she'll have a great NCAA career. It's almost as if African-American girls who continue with volleyball from the club level to the collegiate level do so because of their successes, and those who drop out weed themselves off the volleyball map. If the African-American girl is playing collegiate volleyball, she MUST be good, that's the general consensus. Not so with the White chicks.
That's why we ignoramuses want to see Stephanie Ferrell on the court. Also, historically speaking, what African-American girl has NOT done well in a Wahine uniform? (except Jameka Stevens) Huh?
(I make the above statements without data. Just gut observations and "feeling".)
Okay, fire away. *ducking*

I can't believe I'm agreeing with you, Wolfie. Don't forget Natalie Williams, the Oden sisters, and Antoinette White.
I see a lot of potential in some current players too. Megan Hodge, Des Hooker, Jamie Houston, and Amanda Simmons.

Please DUCK!!! Your racist take is just simply missing the point. Besides having virtually now historical perspective re: african american college volleyball players, you seem to have no idea that Farrell should not be in the L2 position because that position demands: a player who can handle first contacts e.g. serve receive and digging. Next, the L2 must be able to have OVERHAND ball control as well - keep errors to a minimum and keep the ball in play when a kill opportunity is not present. Farrell can do neither of these things - she is a poor passer and tries to play like a terminator but due to size and lack of experience and technique, she simply cannot terminate enough to play EITHER OH position. Finally, she must be able to help block vs. F1 and be a competent blocking versus a slide. While I have heard good things about her character, she is not a strong enough player to play L2 for UH. By the way, Oganna is from NORMAL, ILLINOIS. Perhaps you were thinking of Foluke Akinradewo or Dikembe Motumbo.

Wolfie's editorial is more objective and scholarly than yours. Your attitude is more rascist and in poor taste. Nobody smart takes your kind of comment seriously.

If Ferrel were stellar- she'd be playing for Haley @ USC; not Hawaii. She may become a very good player but obviously she's still too raw at this point in her career to contribute significantly.
She'll get her swings in conference play.
