Nebraska... they surge to the top in relatively recent times? Is this hard to grap? 86 NCAA Finalist 89 NCAA Finalist 90 NCAA SemiFinalist 95 NCAA Champion 96 NCAA SemiFinalist 98 NCAA SemiFinalist 00 NCAA Champion 01 NCAA SemiFinalist 05 NCAA Finalist 06 NCAA Champion For any program that played in the title match twice in the 80s, once in the 90s, and 3 times this decade; how exactly is that a relatively recent surge to the top? Because they didn't lose in the finals to Sul Ross State in the 70s?

In case you think I am cutting down nebraska, I am not at all, my friend. I am talking about being at the top of the heap. Champion. nothing else.
You demonstrated my point well about "relatively recent "-- relative to the earlier days when the west prevailed in the 80's and 90's. And even now in the 2000's. In fact the west currently has the monopoly on titles, doesn't it? However, listen well, my friend, because this is fact: nebraska has come on strong jeopardizing this monopoly.
Hawaii got its 4 national titles in the 80's. Nebraska's first in 1995, 2nd 2000, 3rd 2005. So the observation that hawaii and all west coast champions except Stanford are "have beens" and this is now nebraska's era, would be a stronger contention. Although I would not buy it because next year you will not have Houghtelling and Pavan. It appears that Nebraska once again will be going back to sleep.

So enjoy today's feast to the fullest and hope that hawaii will not tip over the banquet table Oct 21.

I think Hawai'i can win game one by a very close margin. If they don't win game one, then it will be a three game sweep.

I know its a great match up and all (programs wise any way), but does anyone else think it a little strange that Hawaii is flying all the way to Lincoln for one match in the middle of the season? I just find that a little wierd, i could see a tourney or maybe even a couple matches, but just one?

Is yours an anal-type personality or what? Hawaii has three 4 national titles under its belt, including 3 NCCA titles. If Nebraska has only 3 as you say, then Hawaii has more. Titles that came before your seniors were alive barely count.

Miami has had a lot of legal problems, And how many of those were in the last ten years?

if im not mistaken didn't they just have a players shot last year, didn't they have a player get in trouble for gun possession, they have had recruits get in trouble on visits, they have had a problem with players carrying guns so now they changed their policy and any player that has a gun legally or illegally is off the team....so yes these were in the last ten years, but to their credit, they have improved their behavior alot

I just find that a little wierd, i could see a tourney or maybe even a couple matches, but just one? From what I've read, it was either this or spend the week doing nothing as far as playing actual matches. If you can get the #1 team to play you that week, why not? They've had crazier schedules than this in the past.

yeah, I'm not opposed to it, just think its odd for a team to travel basically cross country to play 1 non conference match and fly back, i understand it when football team and basketball team do it, even baseball teams will play 3 or 4 games but just though it was odd for 1 game, i could see if the went to like USC, Stanford, Washington, but all the way to Lincoln? Any chance NU is paying for travel expenses or giving a large cash guarantee ?

I just find that a little wierd, i could see a tourney or maybe even a couple matches, but just one? From what little I know, there are several reasons why Hawaii is flying to the flat cornfield country of Nebraska: 1. good competition during the not-so-competitive WAC season. Hawaii always tries to schedule tough competitors during the WAC season for self-improvement. 2. Coaching staff can incorporate recruiting scouting trips of players in the general Midwest/Central Plains area. 3. Most important: Nebraska is paying Hawaii $10,000. I read this somewhere. Struck me as reasonable. Who wouldn't fly halfway over the continent for some moola. Heck, I even flew to Israel for paying work. Great experience, btw. Still go from time to time.

Going back to an earlier discussion about bad boys in football: Austin Scott of Penn State. Rape charge. Joe Paterno should've retired 5 years ago. He suffers from that very male disease: don't know what to do after retirement.
