I don't really see how PSU fans are so confident. I think we lost a little too much since last season to repeat. The girls, conversely, returned so much it was hard to think they wouldn't repeat.

i think USC will be a bit tougher for Penn State than the DIII team they had to beat to win the EIVA.

i think USC will be a bit tougher for Penn State than the DIII team they had to beat to win the EIVA. A D3 team with a setter more talented than many of the D1 teams.

Everyone knows PSU has no competition in their conference.. To argue otherwise is just stupid. There is no talent on other teams.

Has the #1 seed ever been the at-large team before? I haven't really been following Men's VB long but yes it has happened. BYU in 2001, 2006 Irvine, 2007 Pepperdine and probably more.

Why would an at large ever be seeded #1... I feel like if UCI wanted to be ranked #1 they should have beat USC and not get humiliated like they did in 3 games... Anyway, it doesn't matter... Penn Sate will crush everyone in Provo... It's like the perfect storm heading to Provo! East vs West ! GO EATERS!!!!!!!!!!

UCI seems to be the only team that played at BYU this year. I forgot to check if Ohio State made it to Provo, but probably not.
As Penn State beat USC 3-2 during the first week or so of the season (in Hawaii at 100 feet above sea level, or whatever), this will be an interesting test as to whether the supposed greater competition in the MPSF has toughened up USC enough to beat Penn State this time.

The USC of now is uncomparable to the USC of the early season.

It is very true that the USC of January is not the same team that is going to Provo this weekend. They should be able to give Penn State a run for the championship game, if not take it. My only observation is that they have been shredding teams with their serves these past two games, how will the elevation at Provo affect them? It is true that a good number of their serves were landing more than 5 feet in from the endlines, but how will it affect their confidence knowing that they have to worry about those 2-3 extra feet that the ball will fly due to elevation? I hope they get to Provo a couple days early and get some reps in there, because USC is looking to take some East Coast teams by surprise. The box scores really do not do this team justice for how much they have improved in the last couple weeks.
But either way.... I am pulling for UCI. Go Eaters!

Ar-large as #1? Pepperdine 2007. Walked thru the MPSF, lost tourney final to UCI in five and went to final four as #1. Lost to IPFW and UCI went on to become champs.

How does USC not have new stats or even a story about who they're playing on their website. That's embarrasing. They know they're playing Thursday, right?

I think its safe to say at this time of the year that UCI will "crush" OSU. Maybe UCI should just take the night off and let Juniata stand in for them to take on OSU again... HA!

I'm a Penn State fan but agree that it is silly to believe they will "crush" anyone. I think they should be viewed as the underdog against USC, if only because I believe that would give them added incentive and a better frame of mind
