Have they ever had the National Tournament in Southern California? i feel that so-cal would be a great location for the tournament. PEACE It was a couple of times in the past. Since moving to convention centers 10 years ago it has almost always been in the midwest, in order to keep average travel distance for all teams to a minimum.

how long did NIRSA usually take to announce their next location? I am sure the NCVF will be releasing their location very close to NIRSA.

College men's club Nationals has not ever been in socal as far as I know, ...I've been involved since 1988 and Nationals started in 1985... Reno once. Colo Springs once. UC Davis twice 1985 and 1989.
NIRSA started trying a midwest, east, midwest, west rotation....then more and more midwest ...upper and lower or middle...as transportation for east and mountain schools can be close. (ignore the west coast basically). The closest to the west lately was Salt Lake City. About 10 schools grumbled about SLC, but it was perfectly fine.
The City of Anaheim has a very public stance of being favorable to volleyball....and there are several great venues.
However, midwest cities tend to give the best $$ deals on their bids I am presuming....so coming west could be out of consideration. I think the mtn and west schools should lobby for socal and the weather turmoil from several recent years creating total chaos with opening day pools...would be avoided. Plenty of cheap airfares from everywhere to LA.
NIRSA announced their location early last year, but changed the dates to coincide with NCVF. Not sure if the NCVF Board or USA VB is handling venue/date selection for 2011. NCVF board and advisors/reps have a meeting early July I think?? At least they did last year. 2011 venue/dates may not be decided on till then. (:

Anaheim would be a great place for the club tournament for sure.
But after attending the National Tournament for the first time this year, it is quite clear that there are a heck of a lot more club volleyball teams east of colorado than there are west.
So keeping it in the midwest makes a lot of since from the boards stand point.
thanks for the info.

Would nationals in Anaheim make club volleyball a more popular affair?

Would nationals in Anaheim make club volleyball a more popular affair? no, it just makes sense to be in the midwest, texas wasn't a bad venue but unless SLC pops up again i dont see it moving back there too often

what does anyone think about nationals in Colorado, like Denver or Colorado Springs? It's still pretty central to the country. The reason I would love it is simply because I've never been to Colorado.

If they held Nationals in Colorado Springs, it would give a lot of volleyball enthusiast a chance to see where the olympic team trained and that is also where the head office for USA Volleyball is.
But didnt they move the national team practice location to...oh yeah ANAHEIM!!!! why? because it is a much better place to practice and dont have to worry about elevation issues and because volleyball is such a lifestyle down there.
Which makes since why nationals should and could be held in Anaheim.

I think the main issue with trying to host the National Tourney in Anaheim is that it would be veiwed as a secondary brand of vb. Like it or not, most familar with So Cal know their view of volleyball is quite "elite-ist". With a number of Mens DI teams, all of the AVP stars, and the USA National Team all playing/training within less than an hours drive, I dont think there would be much local interest at all for "club" National event. Combine that with the fact that probably more than two-thirds of the teams that attend the National event are located on the East side of the country (is Wisconis east? LOL)...I just dont see it happening. I do think the Midwest and Eastern teams would love the idea of heading to Cali to play, but combined with the costs many of these teams are already forking over for Vegas every year...just seems out of reach.

Would there ever be a unique site for the national championship kind of like baseball in Omaha?
