You are missing my point. Minnesota has made a great hire, clearly. Is he fulfilling a committment? He certainly hasnt said that to Minnesota, or to the NT. Has he made it clear to Minnesota that he has to stay through 2012? Because if he did, why wouldnt the release say that, why wouldnt he be communicating that to his current team?

My theory is, the NT is looking to see if they can get a top level coach to jump in now and lead this group at the level Hugh can. If they find that person he's gone, if they can't he stays. I hadn't thought of that - have there been any rumors or buzz about a search? none that I know, but given the lack of definitive time table it seems logical.

@ JT,,
Why?
Because I refuse to be played.
I refuse to accept this idea HE is is the best hire out there and we must give him a LOU HOLTZ contract..before he even comes here.
If he demanded all this before even coming what will he do if he decides to go somewhere else? ..and yes children ...coaches break prior commitments and contracts all the time.
How well did LOU leave our football program?
Cant you see the connections..dot the ...'s ??
This was a known deal for months..the AD has known it was here. I LIKE the AD personally. But it is a business and his record speaks for itself.
He safely punted ..that's all.

I think this is everything but a punt. Its a home run IMO. I think the AD found a way to hire what may be the best coach in the country. I just dont like the uncertainty for the athletes, they deserve better. If he hasnt made a final decision, then he needs too. If they have, why on earth would you not inform the athletes?

With all respect to your inside info (sometimes correct, sometimes not), how do you know what he has told the athletes? More importantly, why would he tell them something if 1) he doesn't know the answer yet or 2) people can't keep it to themselves, possibly messing up the process?
In short, we don't know what's going on other than Hugh appears to be trying to fulfill his commitments.

You underestimate Hugh and his abilities. This is not merely one of the best coaches in the country. He is one of the best in the world. Winning a gold medal with a team that was not considered a favorite (contender, yes - favorite, no) proves that - especially given the added stress of the murder of a family member who was attending the games.

How can anyone anticipate that Hugh is going to hit a homerun with Minnesota.

Nobody is sharing "insider" info, or anything that hasnt been shared publically, The NT and Minnesota press release say the same thing.....he's going, not saying when. Obviously it hasnt been decided, if it has why wouldnt it say when. Not sure how someone sharing something that has been made public is a breach of trust, or how it slows the process.

You don't understand my point. It hasn't been made public. Maybe there's a good reason for it.

Didn't Hugh coach at BYU? So he does have college coaching under his belt.
And coaching is coaching! I am so tired of hearing that he won't be successful because he doesn't have college coaching experience. A great club coach CAN be successful as a college coach. In fact, probably better than most college coaches because they understand what it is like to train and develop players.

But most importantly, Hugh will be very successful recruiting great players. Being a successful coach is first and foremost about recruiting. Why wouldn't a recruit be interested in playing for someone who coached the U.S. Men's Olympic Team to a Gold Medal in Beijing...and most recently coached the U.S. Women's National Team?

I think Hugh is a hot commodity right now for college recruiting purposes because of his current association with the NT. A year after he leaves the NT that buzz will wear off. He will still be a good coach.
If you mentioned the name, Jenny Lang Ping, to 16 year old kids I believe the reaction from 9 out of 10 kids would be “WHO?”

I'm convinced, Hugh is not the guy for Minnesota. How could they think of risking this program on such an unknown. I say back to the drawing board. Let's get a proven coach at Minnesota. Not some wanna be hack with such a flimsy resume.
