She can play opposite but hit from zone 4. But this would change Hugh's entire system.. which is built upon a bail-out OPP (Hooker) playing in 1&2. Hugh doesn't strike me as one to change what he's doing on the fly. While it's an interesting situation to consider.. I think he'll keep Hodge as a receiving OH.

Tom, Larson, and Hodge at OH. Berg, and Glass at Setter Foluke, Harmotto, and Bown at MB Davis at Libero Tama at DS, and insurance if Davis' leg acts up Hooker, and ?? - I think HP but it could be Metcalf at OPP

I did think about Hodge backing up Hooker if she needed to and that would have put another OH or MB on the OG team. Richards at OH, or Scott at MB. I just really don't see Hugh going that route. I would say Richards, and Scott would be alternates. How many alternates do they name?

USAvolley16 - To be fair to Metcalf, Glass at times really did not set a lot to her. A very heavy dose to Hodge, and to a lesser degree Richards. Hodge had Hooker numbers.

It's a good read, but I seriously doubt that the decision really came down to how they played in the final set of the WGP. I think the speculation here that Hugh sees Thompson as a fine double-sub candidate but Glass as the better six-rotation setter is probably correct. That being said, he may well want a double-sub for tactical purposes more than he wants a six-rotation sub for Berg. It seems like it depends on his confidence in Berg more than his confidence in Glass or Thompson.

Leave both Glass and Thompson at home and take an OH and MB. If anything happens to Berg, we'll just have Logan Tom set. Olympic Gold baby!

Davis was not in uniform and definetly limping around. She suffered something more serious than calf cramps. Hopefully it's just a strain and she'll be fine, but the USAV won't tell us anything.
Not publicly announcing the team until after July 4 is probably good for the staff, so they can talk to the players before the public knows, but tough on the 20 odd fans that care. And if Davis's injury is substantial being an alternate might actually mean something; assuming that status is to replace named players injured or unavailable at the time the Games start.
If USA is going to use #12 as a serving sub Thompson continues to score points on serve, and got a 1 serve in when side outed, the Chinese hitter tooled the US block from 10 feet away.

I've been watching the replays and I like the way Miyashiro performed. I may even be inclined to say she looked better than Davis.

The team should be: OH: Tom, Barboza, Richards and Klineman. MB: Akinradewo and whoever. Opp: Kerri Walsh. Setter: Bryn Kehoe and Cary Wendall. Libero: Do we really need a Libero? And if it is not too late, can we get rid of Hugh and make Don Shaw the coach? Haven't heard from TennisCraze lately. This post is dedicated to him.
